Microsoft and Dell take a dig at Apple MacBook Neo

After AMD tried to discredit the Apple MacBook Neo with a misleading advertising campaign, Microsoft and Dell are now also taking jabs at the affordable MacBook. While Microsoft isn't quite as far off the mark as AMD, the Dell XPS 13 is significantly more expensive than the MacBook Neo in some regions.

We recently reported on an AMD advertising campaign that sought to market gaming at 14 frames per second as an advantage over the Apple MacBook Neo ($629 on Amazon), and which also made misleading comparisons. Now Microsoft is joining the campaign against the MacBook Neo.

In the X-Post embedded below, Microsoft responds to a video that compares the MacBook Neo to an HP Victus gaming laptop – not exactly a fair comparison. Microsoft actually chooses a better laptop for comparison: the new Dell XPS 13, powered by Intel Wildcat Lake. And Microsoft’s arguments are certainly valid, as the XPS 13 offers facial recognition login, a touchscreen, and a backlit keyboard – all features you won’t find on the MacBook Neo.

However, the Dell XPS 13 is only a real alternative to the MacBook Neo in the U.S., where the laptop is available starting at $699. Dell Germany, for example, lists a price of €1,049 for the same base model with Intel Core 5 320, 8 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB SSD. Even after Apple’s major price increase, the MacBook Neo with a 512 GB SSD and Touch ID, with a list price of €899, is still €150 cheaper than the Dell XPS 13.

The 120 Hz display with full DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, the quad speakers, Wi-Fi 7, and the significantly lighter 1-kilogram chassis are also major advantages for the Dell XPS 13 on paper. Whether the Dell XPS 13 can actually outperform the MacBook Neo, especially in terms of battery life and CPU performance, will become clear in our in-depth review. However, anyone faced with the decision between the MacBook Neo and the Dell XPS 13 isn’t just choosing between two affordable laptops, but also between macOS and Windows 11.
