Apple appears to be significantly speeding up its Mac schedules. Rumors have recently suggested that while the MacBook Ultra will launch as planned in late 2026 or early 2027, the laptop will still use the older Apple M5 Pro and Apple M5 Max, as the M6 Pro and M6 Max have reportedly been scrapped.
The most affordable 14-inch MacBook Pro ($1,849 on Amazon) is expected to receive an upgrade to the Apple M6 this fall, though the design of this model will reportedly remain unchanged. Now, Bloomberg reports that this 14-inch MacBook Pro will get a successor based on the Apple M7 as early as the first half of 2027. To remain competitive in terms of AI performance, Apple is apparently accelerating the development of its next-generation Mac processors. What’s particularly exciting is that this 14-inch MacBook Pro with the Apple M7 is expected to feature the same design as the MacBook Ultra.
This means customers won't have to opt for Apple’s most expensive notebook just to get the thinner, more modern-looking chassis. The entry-level model is also expected to feature the Dynamic Island instead of the large notch. Bloomberg has not yet confirmed whether this model will also receive an upgrade to the MacBook Ultra’s touch-sensitive tandem OLED display or stick with the 120 Hz Mini-LED display of the current MacBook Pro. Bloomberg notes that Apple’s timelines could be delayed due to the DRAM crisis.
