Massive Entertainment, the Swedish video-game developer behind Tom Clancy’s The Division, may be working on a new battle royale game. It has been reported that the Ubisoft-owned subsidiary has been tasked by the French gaming giant to come up with something in this massively popular genre that could challenge titles such as Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
The tremendous success of games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite Battle Royale has spurred other developers into action. Rumors have already started flying around the gaming industry with many wondering which company will be the next to dip some toes into the battle royale pool. According to Gamereactor there is news that Massive Entertainment is working on a game in this particular genre. However, it is not known whether the company behind The Division is developing a brand-new title or plans to turn their well-received action RPG into a battle royale game.
Massive, which has been owned by Ubisoft since 2008, has just announced a sequel to The Division. Busy developers at the company are also working on a game based on James Cameron’s Avatar universe. If the Swedish video-game makers are actually also developing an entry into the battle royale world then it’s likely many of the company’s 400 employees will be logging some serious overtime over the coming year.
