Mammotion has announced its new iNavi Service, which will roll out to users of some of its robot lawn mowers. The feature means that the robots can navigate your lawn without the need to place an RTK reference station nearby. This should make installation more flexible, allow the mower to operate in areas that do not have an RTK signal, and free up space in your garden.
An update for the Mammotion app for iOS and Android, released in February, stated that the tool was now available for users in Germany. However, users have yet to report that they can access this feature. This new service will be compatible with the Luba Mini AWD, Yuka Mini, Luba 2 AWD X, and Yuka (curr. from $1,349 at Amazon US) models.
The iNavi Service is said to provide centimeter-level positioning accuracy, though the company has not provided a detailed description of how this is achieved. Seemingly, it uses the mowers’ onboard cameras and sensors. Plus, Mammotion notes that users must ensure that their Yuka or Luba mower has a “strong and stable” 4G or Wi-Fi network to see the best possible performance. How the accuracy of this new technology will compare to the older RTK navigation system remains to be seen.
Mammotion describes its iNavi Service as an “optional upgrade”, suggesting that it could be a paid-for feature. However, there is no indication as to how much it would cost. The wording used by the company in various documents suggests that there could be plans to bring this technology to other users worldwide, though no timeframe is given.
