Honor has now officially presented the Magic V Flip2 as the latest in a series of clamshell foldables that have arrived in the last few months. As pre-launch rumours suggested, the Magic V Flip2 surpasses rivals like the Mix Flip 2, Galaxy Z Flip7 and Razr 60 Ultra (curr. $1,099 on Amazon) in some areas on paper but falls short in others.
For example, the Magic V Flip2 is the first clamshell foldable to reach a 5,500 mAh battery capacity. Aided by 80 W wired, 50 W wireless and 7.5 wireless reverse charging, the large battery inside the Magic V Flip2 easily surpasses anything Motorola, Samsung or Xiaomi have managed to include inside their recent clamshell foldables.
Likewise, Honor has somehow managed to pack 200 MP primary (1/1.4-inch), 50 MP ultra-wide-angle (120° FOV) and 50 MP inner cameras (f/2.0) into a housing that is 6.9 mm thick each side. Weighing in at 204 g and sporting IP59 certification, the Magic V Flip2 is 15.5 mm thick when folded, 75.6 mm wide and 167.1 mm tall when opened. As a result, Honor has given itself enough space to install two relatively large 120 Hz LTPO OLED displays, which span 4-inches and 6.82-inches while reaching up to 3,600 and 5,000 nits, respectively.
The Magic V Flip2 relies upon Qualcomm's older Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform though, rather than the Snapdragon 8 Elite that powers the Mix Flip 2 and Razr 60 Ultra. Still, Honor plans to offer the Magic V Flip2 with up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. However, the device will not go on sale in China until August 28 for between CNY 5,499 (~$766) and CNY 7,499 (~$1,045) depending on the SKU. There is no word on international availability yet, either.
