Galaxy Z Flip7: Samsung confirms DeX desktop mode support but with a key drawback
Samsung has shot directly for Motorola and the Razr 60 Ultra with the Galaxy Z Flip7, which the latter sells as the Razr Ultra 2025 in some markets (curr. $1,299 on Amazon). As we have covered in our launch article, the Galaxy Z Flip7 effectively matches the display sizes of Motorola's flagship clamshell smartphone but within a lighter, thinner and shorter package.
The Razr 60 Ultra is expected to retain a performance advantage over its Galaxy Z Flip rival, though. For reference, the Galaxy Z Flip7 is the first in the series to utilise an Exynos chipset, with the Exynos 2500 usurping Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets in all markets. However, the switch to the Exynos 2500 coincides with the addition of a feature that has eluded all previous Galaxy Z Flip generations.
Specifically, Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Z Flip7 supports DeX. For context, the Razr 60 Ultra supports Motorola's equivalent but only wirelessly. As it turns out, it seems that the Galaxy Z Flip7 only provides DeX functionality wirelessly too, despite initial suggestions that wired connectivity would be available.
An apparent caveat that the Galaxy Z Flip7 must remain open for DeX mode to remain active has proven inaccurate, though. Based on Mr Mobile's video below, DeX remains enabled even with the Galaxy Z Flip7 in its closed state, albeit only wirelessly.
