Samsung's newest flip-style foldable smartphone is finally here. This time, it brings forth some intriguing under-the-hood changes that many will consider divisive. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is Samsung's first of its kind to use an Exynos 2500 SoC; second, if you count the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. Samsung offers models with 12 GB LPDDR5X RAM and storage options of 256 GB or 512 GB. No 8 GB shenanigans this time, thankfully.
On the flip side, you get a slightly larger 6.9-inch primary display with a resolution of 2,520 x 1,080 pixels and a 4.1-inch cover display (1,048 x 948). Both devices employ Super AMOLED panels and feature a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and 2,800 nits peak brightness. Furthermore, the cover display now seamlessly blends in with the two rear camera modules-a design we've seen before with Motorola's foldables. It will help the Galaxy Z Flip 7 visually differentiate itself from its last-gen counterparts.
Moving on to its cameras, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 comes with a 50 MP primary sensor with OIS and a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle lens. At the front, a 10 MP sensor handles selfies and video calls. Its cameras haven't changed much, so users will have to rely even more on software to get better images. A 4,300 mAh battery powers the foldable. Unfortunately, its charging wattage is still capped at 25 Watts. The extra 300 mAh capacity over the Flip 6 runs the risk of being offset by Samsung's historically less power-efficient Exynos SoC.
Other Galaxy Z Flip 7 specs include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, 5G, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, dual-SIM function (nano SIM plus e-SIM), a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, IP48 water and dust resistance and an aluminium chassis. It is available in three colour variants: Blue Shadow, Jet Black, and Coral Red. A fourth Mint version is exclusive to Samsung's store. It measures 166.7 mm x 75.02 mm x 6.5 mm and weighs 188 grams.
You can now pre-order the Galaxy Z Flip 7, starting at €1,199 for the 256 GB version and €1,399 for the 512 GB version. Pre-orders are now available, with general availability beginning on July 24. Samsung's pre-order bonuses vary by market, so please check your local website for more details. One of them includes a free storage upgrade (pay for 256 GB and get 512 GB), but this offer may not be available globally.
