It seems that only Google is left to unveil a new book-style foldable this year after Honor, Vivo and Samsung recently introduced the Magic V5, X Fold5, and Galaxy Z Fold7 (curr. $1,999 on Amazon) within a few weeks of each other, respectively. Potentially, we may see two new tri-fold smartphones emerging before the end of the year by Huawei and Samsung too, though.
Nonetheless, Digital Chat Station has already turned their attention to what lies in store for the book-style foldable market. Writing on Weibo, the leaker stresses that his information originates from an engineering sample. Thus, hardware could change before final retail units arrive.
With that being said, it seems that foldable manufacturers will focus on improving camera hardware for their next generation machines, which remains an area where candybar smartphones still outperform their foldable counterparts. According to Digital Chat Station, some prototypes are currently being tested with a 50 MP, 1/1.3-inch and physical variable aperture primary camera, as well as a periscope telephoto macro camera.
On top of that, the engineering sample that they have witnessed maintains existing waterproof levels with an ultra-thin design. Moreover, the leaker expects book-style foldables to return with circa 7.95-inch and 2K LTPO foldable displays using ultra-thin-glass (UTG). Unfortunately, it remains to be seen which manufacturer Digital Chat Station is referring to at this stage.
