Digital Chat Station has shed new light on Huawei's next tri-foldable smartphone, just as Samsung prepares to begin shipping the Galaxy Z Fold7 (curr. $1,999 on Amazon). With the launch of Samsung's first-generation rival seemingly right around the corner, it seems that Huawei is preparing to move on to a second-generation successor to the Mate XT before the end of the year.
Building on information shared a few weeks ago, the leaker has now highlighted that the so-called Mate XT 2 has passed through TENAA certification in China on its way to being released. As the image below shows, Huawei has sought regulatory approval for GRL-AL20, with GRL-AL10 being the model number for the current Mate XT.
From this image alone, we can glean that GRL-AL20 features a 5G chipset and runs HarmonyOS like many recent Huawei devices sold in China. According to Digital Chat Station, the Mate XT 2 will leverage the Kirin 9020, which can already be found across the Mate 70, Pura X and the Pura 80 Ultra, among others.
Moreover, the leaker expects Huawei to include satellite connectivity and a new 50 MP variable aperture primary camera. The next Mate XT should maintain a periscope camera too, albeit with upgrades of its own. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether Huawei will offer its second-generation Mate XT outside China at this stage.
