Minisforum has released plenty of high-end mini-PCs lately under its AI X1 and N5 series. Of these, many have featured AMD's Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU, which combines four Zen 5 and eight Zen 5c CPU cores with a Radeon 890M iGPU leveraging 16 RDNA 3.5 Compute Units (CUs).
While the AI X1 Pro and N5 Pro are powerful options, their performance pales in comparison to Strix Halo-powered alternatives like the GMKtec EVO-X2 (curr. $1,499.99 on Amazon) with the Ryzen AI Max+ 395. For reference, our benchmarks show a massive gulf when comparing the iGPU performance of the two APUs. With that being said, a smaller gap often exists when looking at CPU-heavy workloads.
Unsurprisingly, it seems that Minisforum is preparing an alternative to the likes of the GMKtec EVO-X2. For the time being, the company has not publicly revealed anything. However, a slew of listings bearing the hallmarks of a future Minisforum device have now surfaced on Geekbench.
As ITHome notes, these are all referred to by the name 'Micro Computer (HK) Tech Limited AI Series' rather than a retail name. Nonetheless, the same name is used across hundreds of AI X1 and AI X1 Pro listings. Therefore, it seems likely that Minisforum is preparing a Strix Halo option under its AI series. Not only that, but Minisforum will be offering the device with a Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU configured with up to 128 GB of RAM.
