Minisforum is on a run of offering new mini-PCs lately, having introduced the UM690L Slim and UM750L Slim a few weeks ago. Now, it has returned to the AI X1, which it debuted in March alongside the AI X1 Pro. Incidentally, Minisforum presented more affordable AI X1 Pro configurations a few days ago ahead of a presumed global launch.
To recap, the company initially sold the AI X1 with AMD's Ryzen 7 260 APU. While a member of the Hawk Point family, the Ryzen 7 260 is effectively a rebadged Ryzen 7 7840HS that is now over two years old. The same is also true of the Ryzen 7 255, with which the AI X1 is now available. However, the introduction of this less powerful APU has reduced the starting price of the AI X1 from $439 to $369 or $349 after applying the coupon code x126030.
Minisforum now offers the AI X1 with the Ryzen AI 9 365 too, starting at $579 as a barebones system. A Strix Point APU, the Ryzen AI 9 365 should offer superior CPU performance thanks to its 4 Zen 5 and 6 Zen 5c CPU cores that deliver a combined 20 threads. On top of that, the Ryzen AI 9 365 contains a Radeon 880M iGPU that should outperform the Radeon 780M inside the Ryzen 7 255 and Ryzen 7 260.
Nonetheless, all SKUs feature SO-DIMM RAM, dual M.2 2280 slots, 2.5 Gigabit LAN and dual USB4 ports within a 128 × 126 × 52 mm case that weighs around 600 g. Currently, Minisforum's Ryzen 7 255 and Ryzen AI 9 365 additions can be configured with ip to 64 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD for $627 and $829, respectively, before applying any launch discounts.
