Supposed benchmarks of the upcoming AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT posted on Reddit paint an interesting picture. The alleged 5600 XT scores place the GPU well above Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1660 Ti in most tests and outpace AMD's own Vega 56 GPU.

AMD is on a rampage. It currently dominates the desktop CPU space and is slowly eating away at Nvidia’s GPU market share. The next GPU from Team Red, the Radeon RX 5600 XT, may erode Nvidia’s graphical dominance even faster if leaked benchmarks are to be believed.

Reddit user “_rogame” recently got his hands on an unnamed HP desktop system. The tower in question packs an Intel Core i7-9700, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, and an AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. The specs of the card match those that have been all but confirmed for the upcoming card: 6 GB of GDDR5 VRAM at 12 Gbps and a boost core clock of 1624 MHz.

The user posted impressive scores in 3DMark’s Time Spy and Fire Strike benchmark suites. Compared to the 5500 XT (which has shown itself to be a competent mid-range GPU), the alleged 5600 XT performed 32-35% better in the synthetic tests. More interestingly, the scores came in between 3-48% better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super, depending on the benchmark.

It seems that the 5600 XT performed better in the more demanding pieces of 3DMark’s tests, which may suggest that its scant 6 GB of VRAM may not be too problematic for gaming at higher resolutions (e.g., 1440p). The 5600 XT competes well against AMD’s Vega 56 and may be a suitable replacement, at least as far as the benchmarks show.

If AMD can price the 5600 XT competitively against Nvidia’s mid-range solutions, particularly the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, Team Red may have a mid-range winner on their hands. Of course, these benchmarks should be taken with a grain of salt. Given AMD’s track record over the past year, though, 2020 should be an interesting year for GPU buyers.

Below is a table comparing the 5600 XT scores from _rogame to our in-house benchmarks for other GPUs. Also be sure to check _rogame's Reddit thread (linked below) for more benchmark comparisons.
