Insider provides details on the launch window of the Sony PlayStation 5 Pro
Rumors have been circulating for months that the PlayStation 5 Pro would be launched in the second half of 2024, but recent reports have suggested that the console might miss the launch by the end of the year. Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming has now provided new details on the console's launch timeframe
According to Henderson, developers can submit games and software to Sony's Platform Certification & Operations team as early as July 30 to have them approved for launch on the PlayStation 5 Pro. Games released after 15 September 2024 must be optimized for the PlayStation 5 Pro. While this does not necessarily mean that the PS5 Pro will be launched shortly thereafter, it does indicate that Sony is still on schedule to launch the console in the second half of 2024.
Last year, Sony was said to have been planning on delivering the console towards the end of November. So far, Henderson has received no indication that these plans have changed. The announcement is currently planned for September. As the leaked specs have shown, the PlayStation 5 Pro offers more power than the regular PS5. The console will continue to have eight Zen 2 processor cores, which should be slightly faster thanks to clock speeds of up to 3.85 GHz.
The most significant upgrade is the new RDNA 3 graphics chip with 30 WGPs, which means the graphics chip offers a more modern architecture and 66.7% more shaders. As before, the console offers 16 GB GDDR6 RAM and the bandwidth is set to increase by 28% to 576 GB/s. The AI performance of 300 TOPS should also enable AI upscaling in the style of Nvidia DLSS.
