Sony pushes back 85mm lens release to August, may also unveil FX9 successor and a 24-70mm f/2.0 GM lens alongside
Sony has announced a two-month delay for the highly anticipated FE 85mm f/1.4 GM II lens, pushing its release date to late August. The leak suggest that Sony is adopting a slightly different product strategy this time around.
A successor to the FX9 movie camera and a faster FE 24-70mm f/2.0 GM lens are rumored. However, the latter is more likely to be unveiled in September.
The delay of the 85mm lens is likely due to Sony's focus on refining its G Master series, building upon the success of the original FE 85mm f/1.4 GM lens, which has been praised for its exceptional image quality, fast aperture, and fast autofocus. The upcoming Mark II version is expected to enhance these features, possibly with improvements in autofocus speed, low-light performance, and optical stabilization.
While the Sony A7V full-frame camera has been the subject of a lot of speculation, Sony has confirmed that it will not be released in 2024. The camera is expected to feature a 36-megapixel sensor with a reduced low-pass filter for enhanced image quality. Sony's second-generation BIONZ XR processor and AI processing unit will likely power the A7V. Those interested will need to wait until late August for the release of the 85mm f/1.4 GM II lens, and probably even more for the other launches.
