Honor MagicBook 14 and MagicBook 15 refreshed with AMD Ryzen 5 5500U processors
Honor has been selling the MagicBook 14 and MagicBook 15 for a while now. Last year, we reviewed both the Ryzen 5 3500U and Ryzen 5 4500U models, but the company launched the Ryzen 5 2500U-powered MagicBook in 2018. Now, Honor has launched Ryzen 5 5500U versions of the MagicBook 14 and MagicBook 15, which can be pre-ordered in Russia with 512 GB of storage and two complimentary gifts. Honor restricts the former to 8 GB of RAM though, with the latter afforded 16 GB.
While the Ryzen 5 5500U is a member of AMD's Ryzen 5000 family, its Lucienne cores are more comparable with the Renoir ones in the Ryzen 5 4500U than the eight Cezanne cores that power the Ryzen 7 5700U. AMD manufacturers Lucienne and Renoir cores on its Zen 2 architecture, which explains why the Ryzen 5 5500U only averaged a 7% performance uplift over the Ryzen 5 4500U in our tests.
It appears that Honor has made other changes to the MagicBook 14 or MagicBook 15, either. Honor has not confirmed if it plans to release these refreshed laptops in the Eurozone, the UK, or other markets. Typically, the company releases new hardware in China and Russia first before expanding their releases a few months later.
