More potential details of the first-gen Honor foldable surface in a new leak
Honor has resurrected its Magic series of mobile devices in 2021, with its first Android flagship in years. Now, some reliable leakers have hinted that this premium smartphone might get a cutting-edge foldable counterpart soon. The latest rumor that supports this idea asserts that such a device is definitely on the way, and will be launched by the end of 2021.
This new report comes from a Weibo account with a name that can be translated as 'Huawei Fans', (or possibly 'Huawei Video Fans') and, as such, typically posts leaks associated with that OEM. Honor did indeed start out as an off-shoot of that same OEM, although it did split off from the company recently. Nevertheless, the latest word is that its first-gen foldable will have much in common with a certain model from its former parent.
That might be bad news for those hoping Honor would truly go its own way with its first-gen flexible-display device. On the other hand, the Huawei phablet in question is the Mate X2, probably the company's best-received foldable to date as it is closest to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold3 in its design.
Therefore, the putative upcoming Honor rival is thought to be built along the same book-like lines, albeit with a few tweaks that may help set it apart. On the other hand, HuaweiFans now asserts the resulting final product will be called the Magic X and not the Magic Fold, as per the last leak on the subject.
On that note, Honor does in fact have both of these names trademarked, and may just have yet to decide which one will grace its inaugural inward-folding flagship as yet. The newly independent electronics company is reportedly extremely confident about the device, believing it capable of market-beating success on its late-year launch.
Given that the space could indeed use more competition, let's hope it can evade the Mate X2's effective global trade embargo should it truly debut soon.
