Updated Article: Samsung opened pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 in its native South Korea shortly after their launch (on August 17, 2021), and let them run for a week thereafter (until August 23). The OEM now reportedly claims to have attracted no less than 920,000 of these registrations for the 2 new foldables combined.
Bloomberg tech writer Sohee Kim now notes that the number of these domestic Z Fold/Flip3 pre-orders are now said to be 80% higher than the corresponding numbers for the Galaxy S21 series. Not even the Galaxy Note 20 and 20 Ultra fared better, as the 2021 foldables outdid them by 30%.
The new figures are also thought to be considerably higher than the same for the Galaxy Z Fold2, which moved 80,000 units during its first week of domestic pre-orders - in fact, Samsung now claims that current Z Fold/Flip3 orders "already [outpace] the total sales for Galaxy Z devices to date in 2021".
Therefore, it seems the newer Z Fold3 and Flip3 have improved consumer confidence in, and enthusiasm for, foldables. On that note, a South Korean carrier has reportedly estimates that consumers aged 20 to 39 accounted for approximately 49% and 57% of pre-orders through its channel for the Z Fold3 and Flip3 respectively.
Understandably, the less expensive Z Flip3 has been found to have accrued the majority of the orders thus far, attracting 70% of them for one day (August 24, 2021) of the post-launch period.
