The Home Assistant 2025.2 software is now available. The February update is the second major release for the open-source home automation software this year. It builds on the refreshed backup system, which arrived last month, and also adds new features for voice commands.
After a positive user response to the January backup system overhaul, Home Assistant has continued to tweak it based on customer feedback. As such, there are now integrations allowing you to backup to Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. Plus, there is a new ability to control encryption settings for certain locations, and you can customize the scheduled backup time.
New features for Voice, the company’s private voice assistant, include the ability to call your analog phone and leave a message. Plus, users can now broadcast a message to all voice assistants in their home, which you could use to call your family for dinner. On top of this, you can now use voice commands to set the temperature on your smart thermostat. The company notes that there is an upcoming YouTube livestream dedicated to Voice on February 12th.
As well as the integrations for Google Drive and OneDrive come links to the Homee smart home system and igloohome smart locks. Also noted is support for the Shelly BLU TRV smart thermostatic radiator head and TP-Link vacuums, and Bang & Olufsen product users can now set up triggers based on physical button pushes on their devices. You can find the complete release notes for Home Assistant 2025.2 on its blog, and the full changelog is on a different webpage.
