Gigabyte Aero 15

Gigabyte Aero 15 is a high-end notebook with a stylish design after the successful Aero 14. It is a multimedia notebook with gaming capabilities or a gaming laptop with all-around nature. The Aero 15 is attractive thanks to its slim design and long battery runtimes. With a height of only 19 mm (~0.75 in), the 15-inch model appears very slim and can be comfortably transported. The low weight also contributes to the latter: 2.1 kg (~4.6 lb) does not really indicate that a 45-watt CPU and a gaming GPU are inside. The almost frameless display which is only about 5 mm/0.2 in along the top, left, and right edges is another advantage. However, the slim display bezels mean the webcam is placed below the display, which gives it an awkward angle for video chatting. The chassis, which is primarily made of aluminium, is meticulously built and can hardly be twisted even when strong pressure is applied. There are three colour variants of the Aero 15 or more precisely its lid. Apart from classic black, Gigabyte also offers a subtle green and a medium-bold orange. The 15-inch model uses a Core i7-7700HQ and a GeForce GTX 1060. Currently, these components are very popular in laptops from similar price range which offers a good compromise between price and performance. The Kaby Lake processor and the Pascal graphics card are accompanied by 16GB of DDR4 RAM and an M.2-SSD with 256 to 512 GB, which uses either SATA III or PCIe technology.
The display is a matte 15.6-inch IPS panel with 1920x1080 pixels. The display hinge which extends over almost the entire width and allows a view of the fan grilles does not show flows. Although the device can be easily opened with one hand, the lid does not wobble too much when the device sits on a vibrating surface. The Aero 15 keyboard is decent. Its travel distance is good for a gaming laptop, with a nice clicky response to the rubber dome keycaps. The amount of force required to activate each key makes it a great option for both typing and gaming. Gigabyte includes full RGB backlighting in the Aero 15 with the ability to individually customise the colour of every key. A user can achieve awesome effects through the Gigabyte Fusion utility. The powerful battery is one of the biggest unique features of the Aero 15: 94 Wh is very big and can be found in only a few performance notebooks. Other highlights include the very slim display frame, which competes with the Infinite Edge design of the Dell XPS 15, and the Thunderbolt 3 port.

Slim and powerful. After the successful Aero 14, Gigabyte presents its next high-end notebook with a stylish design. Once again, the Aero 15 is attractive thanks to its slim design and long battery runtimes. Learn in this review how the device compares to its competitors from Acer, Dell, MSI, and Razer.

The $1,899 asking price of the Aero 15 seems relatively steep when you consider just the hardware. The Acer Predator Helios 300 as we tested it was $800 less, yet had the same processor, GPU, amount of RAM, and screen resolution as our Aero 15. From a purely price-to-performance perspective, the Aero 15 isn’t all that impressive. But properly framed in the context of its design, overall quality, long battery life, and extras like the RGB-backlit keyboard, it’s hard to argue that the value proposition isn’t there. It’s well worth a first, second, and third look.

The Gigabyte Aero 15 is a colorful and sleek gaming laptop that could double as a productivity machine, thanks to its portability, wonderful display and keyboard. But the notebook doesn't last very long on a charge, and its janky touchpad and oddly placed webcam sour the experience. This was a notebook I wanted to love, but after suffering through those issues, I could only manage to like it very much.

The Gigabyte Aero 15 – For The Working Gamer?
Source: Tech Girl English
All in the all this baby is hot. My best friend/housemate is currently in the market for a new notebook and I imagine this would be the ideal one for her. It is small and slim enough for her to take to work and travel with while it has enough stuff under the hood to allow her to game. She also digs the look of it. It really is a sexy little piece of hardware. However, all that power does come with a price. You’re looking at a starting cost of about R30 000 for this baby (which, in all honesty, is what you’re paying for the equivalent MacBook and that doesn’t let you game).

Gigabyte's Aero 15 is obsessed with colour in the right ways
Source: CNet English
The Aero 15 sells for $1,899 or AU$2,899. That converts to about £1,465. It'll come in a standard black or a very eye-catching orange. Go with the orange. That's the HD 1,920x1080-resolution model. There's also a UHD 4K model coming in Q3, pricing to be announced.

Rounding out the powerful hardware is Nvidia’s excellent GeForce GTX 1060 GPU, which is adequate for a screen of this resolution. The overall high-level of interior specs goes a long way to explain the rather hefty price tag; it’s possible to get similar sized machines at more affordable prices, but they won’t have such a healthy spread of high-end specs. As our benchmarks show, they combine to deliver a powerful machine, with surprisingly lengthy battery life.

There’s the Razer Blade if you’re really looking for something small, but if what you want is larger gaming real estate, the Aero 15 should be near the top of your list of contenders. Its long battery life also means that working away from a power outlet isn’t such a crazy idea for a gaming laptop any more, and this gives the Aero 15 an added degree of versatility.

Back to those tradeoffs, though: Despite Gigabyte’s best efforts to avoid them, something always has to give. Here, it comes in the form of weight. Three or four years ago, a 4.7-pound machine might have been OK for a road warrior. Today, that kind of heft really weighs down your shoulder bag to the point where you’ll have to think carefully about whether the 15.6-inch display is worth the extra pounds.

In the end, color us impressed. Yes, a GeForce GTX 1070-class GPU is a little overkill for gaming at 1920x1080 at 60Hz, and probably justified only if you're looking for future-proofing or to play using an external monitor. A few nagging problems like the laggy trackpad seem to repeat the history of the faulty keyboard.

This machine could use some work in the keyboard and touchpad departments – especially if it wants to do double-duty as a gaming notebook and a notebook for schoolwork. If this notebook is going to be yours for work as well as play, I recommend buying a mouse and even possibly a separate keyboard, with a wrist-rest. It’s always a good time for wrist resting.

80% Gigabyte Aero 15W V8 review – A feast for the eyes
Source: Htxt Africa English
With powerful internals and a gorgeous exterior the Gigabyte Aero 15W V8 won't look out of place in the work place or a LAN party. While we lament the lack of an HDD we recognise it would have added weight to a slim machine. The heat we feel through the keyboard becomes uncomfortable and that also loses this notebook some points. The display is the real star here and it alone earns the 15W V8 a recommendation from us.

Ultimately, it’s just the keyboard that stops the Aero 15 getting an award, but it’s nonetheless a triumph of engineering and represents a top-tier choice for multiple business, industrial and recreation activities.

80% Gigabyte Aero 15-15W V8 (2018) Review
Source: Toptenreviews English
Gigabyte has done some work optimising the battery life, allowing it to get over 7 hours of movie playback when in Performance mode. And while the unit is on the heavy side at a little over 2kg, for something with this much power and battery life, it’s actually exceptionally lightweight. The updated model does sacrifice the 3,000/1,500MB/S NVMe SSD from last year’s model for a slower 500MB/s SATA SSD, but this is the device’s only real step backwards — and it’s a largely inconsequential one.

Gigabyte: GIGABYTE Technology is a Taiwan-based manufacturer of computer hardware products best known for its motherboards. Established in 1986, its major customers include custom boutique PC manufacturers such as Alienware. Secondary lines in the company's product portfolio include complete PCs, laptops, optical drives, LCD monitors, keyboards, mice, cooling components, mobile phones and high end mobile phone products (PDA phone, TV phone etc.), networking equipment, power supplies, and a line of barebone mid and full sized ATX computer cases. Gigabyte laptop reviews are rare and the global laptop market share low.

In the notebook sector, Gigabyte is a medium player and does not belong to the Top 10 manufacturers globally. There are many reviews on Gigabyte laptops with average ratings, but there are only few reviews on Gigabyte tablets. Gigabyte does not play a role in the smartphone sector (as of 2016).

These graphics cards are able to play the latest and most demanding games in high resolutions and full detail settings with enabled Anti-Aliasing.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (Laptop): The mobile GTX 1060 is based on the GP106 chip and offer 1280 shaders. Compared to the identically named desktop version it features a slightly lower clock rate. Games in Full HD and maximum details should run fluently on the card.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q: Efficient high end graphics card for thin and light laptops based on the same GP104 chip as the normal GTX 1070 for laptops but at slower clock speeds. Offers a approx. 15% lower performance but much lower power consumption. » Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

7700HQ: Quad-core notebook processor based on the Kaby Lake architecture. Besides four CPU cores (including Hyper Threading), the chips also integrates the HD Graphics 630 GPU and is manufactured in an improved 14 nm process.8750H: On Coffee Lake architecture based processor for big and heavy laptops. Integrates six processor cores clocked at 2.2 - 4.1 GHz (4 GHz with 4 cores, 3.9 GHz with 6 cores) that support HyperThreading. Manufactured in an improved 14nm process (14nm++).
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

2 kg:

This weight is typical for very big tablets, subnotebooks, ultrabooks and convertibles with a 11-13 inch display-diagonal.

2.17 kg:

Usually subnotebooks, ultrabooks and quite lightweight laptops with 12-16 inch display-diagonal weigh as much.

82.56%: This rating should be considered to be average. This is because the proportion of notebooks which have a higher rating is approximately equal to the proportion which have a lower rating.» Further information can be found in our Notebook Purchase Guide.
