Reviews for the Gigabyte Aero 15-X9
The slim and compact Aero 15-X9 succeeds the popular Aero 15X v8 that we reviewed last year. The new 15.6-inch gaming laptop handles modern triple-A games smoothly on its 144 Hz, 1080p display thanks to its Core i7-8750H processor, RTX 2070 Max-Q GPU and 16 GB DDR4-2666 RAM. Its NVMe SSD should ensure solid system performance too, while its Thunderbolt 3 port gives you the option of connecting an external GPU should you wish to run a desktop GPU. Read on to find out how it performs in our tests and whether it can set new standards for thin and light gaming laptops.

You won't get more CPU power in a laptop at this size, though, and Gigabyte's machine offers it with more GPU power and a lower price than the competition. The Aero 15-X9 isn't a flawless mobile workstation, but it's a good option if you need more power than other machines at this size can deliver.

There are quite a few aspects the Gigabyte Aero 15 does better than most, if not all of the other 15-inch thin-and-light performance laptops on the market, and we've covered them in the article down below, but at the same time this device is quirkier than the competition, so it's not for everyone. The design, keyboard, sound, and thermals are among its antagonizing aspects, while the sturdy build, long battery life, complete IO, upgradeability, and even competitive pricing are among it's stronger points.

Even if it’s not quite as over-the-top as some of the more beastly options out there, the new Aero 15 X9 is probably going to give you exactly what you want out of a gaming or content creation machine.

All in all, I can see why so many swear by the Aero 15, but also why threads like this one exist on the forums. It’s more a utilitarian and gimmicky product than the other options in its already narrow niche, with its share of unique strong-points, but also potential deal-breaking quirks. On top of that, the chances of you running into Quality Control issues is another aspect to consider, so if you decide this is the right pick for you, make sure to buy from a place that handles warranty claims and post-sale support impeccably, in the eventuality you’ll need these services later on.

We hate to wrap up a review with a piece of wishy washy vagueness but right now we are waiting to see what Nvidia does next. Our natural inclination is to wait and see how Aero 15-X9 develops over the next few months as it does not currently offer a compelling reason to upgrade a 2018 laptop. Of course it is a different story if you need a grunty laptop right now as your buying decision becomes a question of which RTX laptop you should buy, rather than whether or not you should buy. In that context Gigabyte 15-X9 certainly deserves your consideration.

Model: The Gigabyte Aero 15-X9 is a powerful but slim gaming laptop. Gigabyte has managed to outshine its competitors by collaborating with Intel - the world renowned tech giant. This time round, the AERO uses a combination of high-performance parts by Intel, called the All Intel Inside technology. The Gigabyte Aero 15-X9 uses a whole block of aluminum to produce a refined laptop lid which is striking to the eye, solid to the touch and ultra-durable for daily use. The chassis is further made from compressed aluminum construction to create a strong yet light body. All this measures and weighs in at just 1.8 cm / 2.0 kg. Non-stop creativity is achieved through the use of a smooth and powerful processor.
The AERO is now upgraded with a brand new, class leading, 6 core high-performance Intel Core i9-8950HK CPU. Users can express their creativity in the smoothest way possible. Gigabyte has chosen to equip the AERO with high-grade, high-performance Samsung DDR4 memory that decreases battery consumption, provides high speed transfer and overall memory quality. As for storage, the Intel 760p SSD is what takes transfer speed to the next level, with up to 3,200 MB/s read speed that lets users work without any long waiting times. Furthermore, the AERO is designed to take two of these speedy SSDs to increase the total storage space to meet users' needs.
Powerful performance comes from effective cooling technology, the AERO comes with 2 uniquely designed fans and cooling system built in, adapting both CPU and GPU, effectively dissipating the heat. This results in keeping parts working longer and at constant peak performance. For display, the 4K UHD IPS display does not only offer the best resolution density in its class, it also comes at 100 % Adobe RGB color gamut that brings wider and more accurate colors than that of a tradition sRGB gamut. The AERO is fitted with a 144 Hz refresh rate display that creates buttery smooth images without jitter or lag. Furthermore, it effectively decreases ghosting and image tearing for both work and play. To enhance audio, it has NAHIMIC 3, which is the next gen 7.1 virtual surround sound that provides outstanding sound experience and performance. From gaming to conference calls, the NAHIMIC 3 brings true 3D surround effect that can be tuned easily with the provided software to suit any environment for the perfect sound experience.
Every key found on the AERO keyboard is fully per-key 16.77 million color RGB backlit plus anti-ghosting. In addition, a full customizable per key macro feature records your input commands (keyboard and mouse) to achieve an array of unique combo functions. With both RGB lighting and macro keys, the AERO keyboard turns into a multi-functional tool that defiantly benefit you, even in the dark. As a conclusion, the Gigabyte Aero 15-X9 is certainly a gaming laptop that is designed to stand out among competitors, especially being the world’s only "All Intel Inside" and world's first Microsoft Azure AI notebook. It is a laptop that sets new gaming laptop standards.

15.60":
15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
