The GIGABYTE AERO 15 XA OLED is a versatile, powerful laptop that’s great for a wide variety of users. Both the aesthetics and performance makes it suitable in both professional and gaming setups. It’s also easy to bring around as it’s relatively thin and is rather light. It has a good battery life and the display is magnificent.

As reviewers, there are some laptops we want to ditch as soon as we finish with them so we can move on to something better and there are some we never want to let go of. The Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED doesn't quite fall into the latter category for me, but it comes closer than almost any other creative-focused clamshell laptop I've tested so far in 2019: It's got an excellent OLED screen that's calibrated with multiple profiles, ranks pretty fast for both photo editing and gaming and has a satisfying design that fits both work and play.

The Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED is a solid performer with a gorgeous OLED panel, it's comfortable to type on and it's all wrapped in a sleek, 0.8-inch package. However, its use of the Microsoft Azure AI could have been utilized better, and the bottom-bezel webcam isn't helping anyone. For $2,779, you can get the Alienware m15, which boasts an even more colorful panel, longer battery life and a webcam that's located where it's supposed to be (on top). However, the Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED still holds its own among the best gaming laptops, due to its solid power and stunning display.

The Areo 15 OLED's new 4K HDR screen is better than anything we've seen as a color-calibrated portable work display or high-resolution on-the-go gaming monitor. This vibrant screen is a bonus on an already powerful, compact and reasonably priced laptop.

That said, there's still a lot to like about the laptop. Aside from the absolutely stellar display, you get a tasteful aluminum chassis in black that feels like quality stuff. There's also a wide selection of connectors, including a Thunderbolt 3 port and UHS-II SD card reader, both items that creative professionals will want.

And that’s kind of the heart of it. The display on the new Aero 15 OLED isn’t just gorgeous. In many ways, it’s kinda the only thing really worth talking about. Even by the standards of laptop refreshes, this is a pretty minor revision. There are plenty of other content creation laptops out there that run the same 9th-Gen Intel Core processors or Nvidia RTX graphics. There aren’t that many out there with OLED screens. If having that OLED screen actually matters to you, you’ll probably want to put some serious consideration into whether it’s worth paying the premium. What you’re getting here is good but, at the same time, most of the differences and evolution that the Aero 15 OLED offers are only skin deep.
