Garmin has released a new beta update to the Instinct 2 series, bringing them up to v14 builds. Rolling out as Beta Version 14.05, the update contains various changes, with nearly a dozen for all eligible smartwatches.

Garmin has published a new beta update for the Instinct 2 series, including the Instinct Crossover. For reference, the Instinct 2 series not only now includes the Instinct 2 and Instinct 2S, but also the Instinct 2X, which is available in Solar and Tactical versions. Incidentally, this week's beta build for the Instinct 2 series is the first in over a month, which Garmin distributed as Beta Version 13.21.

Additionally, the new update is the series' inaugural 14.xx build, with Garmin moving onto 13.xx builds over the summer. As such, Beta Version 14.05 contains plenty of changes, including a Sensor Hub update from v25.60 to v27.11. While Garmin does not outline what changes the new Sensor Hub software makes, Beta Version 14.05 features the following changes for all Instinct 2 and Crossover smartwatches:

  • Removed the limitation on the number of points allowed in a course.
  • Updated Backcountry Ski/Snowboard data screens when using Automatic Mode Tracking.
  • Fixed issue that would prevent access to Team Sports activities.
  • Fixed issue that could cause Edge devices to crash when used as extended display.
  • Fixed issue where golf handicap would not display in Connect.
  • Fixed issue with Intensity Minutes Heart Rate Zones.
  • Fixed potential crash when using PacePro.
  • Fixed crash when replying to smart notifications.
  • Fixed Next Waypoint data field blank when using turn notifications.
  • Fixed Track Run GPS setting.

Additionally, Garmin has addressed another bug for the Instinct 2, Instinct 2S and Instinct 2X that caused issues with the 'Next Waypoint' data field. The company adds that Surf SKUs of the Instinct 2 and Instinct 2S should now show the Tides chart watch face correctly. Meanwhile, Beta Version 14.05 enables flashlight support for CIQ apps on the Instinct 2X and fixes remaining battery life estimates when the Flashlight is active. Please note that you must install Beta Version 14.05 manually, the download links for which can be found on Garmin's forum post.
