Gamers have been having a tough time this decade. It all started with the supply chain crisis in the early 2020s, resulting in massively inflated gaming GPU prices, compounded by the actions of miners and scalpers. Now, with GPU prices still sky-high, memory prices have shot up as well, courtesy of the AI behemoths' massive memory demands.
The gaming PC's DDR5 memory kit is worth more than the PC itself
However, a Redditor appears to have hit the jackpot, if their recent post is to be believed. In a Portuguese pawn shop, u/uneektnt (supposedly) managed to get their hands on a gaming PC for just $600. While that may sound rather unremarkable at first, the deal becomes shockingly lucrative when we take a look at the specifications of the gaming PC, which have been listed below:
- Intel Core i9-14900KF with 24 cores and 32 threads
- 64 GB of DDR5-6000 RAM (T-Force Delta RGB)
- Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super
It is worth noting that prices for both GPU and memory are simply insane right now, which makes the deal a whole lot sweeter. For instance, the 64 GB DDR5 kit alone would cost around $880, making the entire system cheaper than the memory itself. Further, the Core i9-14900KF can be found for around $420, and the RTX 4070 Ti Super, which appears to be a Zotac unit, retails for over $1,200 right now (early December 2025).
Put together, a similar system would easily cost $3,000 to build as of this writing. Of course, pawn shop items are always cheaper than buying brand new, but a discount of 80% is simply incredible. It is quite likely that the shop owner is not aware of the current market prices for the components in the PC. If that is indeed the case, u/uneektnt clearly was at the right place at the right time.
Naturally, this being Reddit, the story might prove to be nothing but a big fat lie later on.
