With prices for RAM exploding, gamers who were hoping to build themselves a new gaming rig are facing an issue they have likely never faced before. The situation is unlikely to improve in the near future, with the AI behemoths having almost completely gobbled up nearly every DRAM supply chain in existence. Some estimates even indicate RAM prices might not witness saner levels through 2028.
Asgard 256 GB DDR5-6000 kit: Pricey and affordable at the same time
Asgard, a Chinese memory manufacturer, recently revealed its latest offering through social media - a couple of high-capacity memory kits. The pricier one of the two happens to be the Valkyrie II Racing Car Limited Edition - quite a mouthful - 256 GB kit priced at a whopping 17,000 Yuan or roughly $2,400. That was not a typo - the official pricing of the 256 GB memory kit quite literally makes it pricier than the most powerful consumer gaming GPU money can buy - the GeForce RTX 5090.
The kit consists of four 64 GB DDR5-6000 modules, utilizing 4 GB M-die ICs from SK Hynix and a 10-layer PCB. For folks with slightly shallower pockets, Asgard has also revealed the Thor Black Gold Limited Edition 192 GB kit, consisting of four 48 GB DDR5-6000 modules with 3 GB M-die ICs from SK Hynix also on a 10-layer PCB. The price for this product is a much saner $1,125.
However, those outside of China getting tempted by the seemingly affordable prices might want to check their expectations. Asgard does not launch its products outside of China, which is definitely disappointing. For those in the US, the G Skill Trident Z5 32 GB DDR5-6000 kit may be a decent option, currently available for $360 on Amazon.
