Pricing remains a mystery for the hotly anticipated Steam Machine. In the meantime, HP has discounted a comparable version of its compact Omen 16L gaming desktop to just $545.99 for a $550 Black Friday saving.

Almost a year has passed since HP unveiled the Omen 16L. Presented during CES 2025 in Las Vegas, HP priced its desktop from $949.99 with a choice of AMD and Intel processors to combine with AMD or Nvidia GPUs. Initially offered with GeForce RTX 40 or Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs, HP has since updated the Omen 16L with GeForce RTX 5060, RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5070 SKUs (curr. $1,639 on Amazon).

While prices of those RTX 50 SKUs remain stubbornly high, HP is offering its AMD SKUs at a heavy discount this Black Friday. Specifically, the company is selling a pre-built unit for $545.99 with a Ryzen 5 8400F processor, a Radeon RX 7600 GPU, 16 GB of DDR5-5200 MT/s RAM and a 512 GB of storage, down from a $1,099.99 MSRP.

Incidentally, this SKU is significantly cheaper than the Steam Machine's rumoured pricing. Nonetheless, the Omen 16L should perform better in gaming thanks to its reliance on desktop parts rather than the laptop equivalents Valve uses in the Steam Machine. Extra performance brings added size with it; the Omen 16L measures 337 x 308 x 155 mm compared to 162 x 156 x 152 for the Steam Machine.

Please note that this deal is time-limited. Explicitly, HP warns that this deal will expire today at 23:58 PT. As far as we can tell, the company is not offering an equivalent deal in other regions. Please see HP's website for more details.
