It has been about a year and a half since Hogwarts Legacy cast its spell on players, lighting up hearts like a well–placed Lumos. With its open world, faithful recreation of Hogwarts, dynamic combat, and undeniable magical charm, the game delivered a dream come true for every Potter fan – and rightfully became 2023’s best–selling title. Given its success, it is no surprise that fans are eagerly hoping for a sequel.
Hogwarts Legacy’s successor has already been officially confirmed, but how closely it will follow in its predecessor’s footsteps remains unclear. Recent rumors hinted at a free-to-play model with multiplayer features – news that did not sit well with many fans. Now, however, new information has surfaced, giving Potter fans a reason to breathe a sigh of relief.
New job postings on the official Warner Bros. careers portal strongly suggest a single–player focus for the Hogwarts Legacy sequel. As with the original, the next installment is expected to be an action–adventure RPG. Among the listings are roles for gameplay programmers with experience in narrative–driven single–player games. There is also a brand management position specifically tied to PC and console titles set in the Harry Potter universe. Another listing highlights creature animation, with requirements that closely resemble those used during the development of the first Hogwarts Legacy.
Apparently linked to the new Harry Potter series
According to an interview with Warner Bros. Games, Hogwarts Legacy 2 is set to be developed in close coordination with the upcoming HBO Harry Potter series. The teams aim to align key big–picture storytelling elements, potentially creating a more connected and immersive Wizarding World experience across both mediums. Not all fans are thrilled by this approach, however. If you have thoughts on the matter, feel free to share them in the comments.
By the way: Hogwarts Legacy is currently selling on Steam with its biggest discount yet – 85% off. The game also runs smoothly on the Steam Deck (which is available on Amazon for around $750).
