GEEKOM has presented the latest result of its partnership with Asus in the form of the new AS 5. It is still backed to support a quad 4K monitor set-up thanks to rear I/O that extends to dual HDMI 2.1 ports - however, the type-C port that joins them is rated for 3.2 Gen 2 speeds and the DisplayPort 1.4 standard, rather than the USB4 of the top-end AS 6.
In addition, the AS 5's processing specs drop a generation to the Ryzen 9 5900HX, as opposed to a choice of the 7 6800H or 9 6900HX in the AS 6. The newer "powered by Asus" PC still also relies on integrated Radeon Vega 8 graphics with no dedicated card.
Nevertheless, it is still rated to support up to 64GB of dual-channel DDR4-3200MHz RAM, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. The AS 5 starts at US$609 (or US$50 less than the AS 6) with 32GB of this RAM and a 1TB SSD.
Those prices are available direct from GEEKOM - however, for those who want or need to shop through Amazon instead, they can also be ordered on that site from now - starting at US$729 for the AS 5, although there is a US$120 coupon check-box to click at the time of writing.
