MINISFORUM has presented a new Mercury series mini-PC, following the introduction of the Mercury EM780 at Computex 2023. Now, the EM680 has joined the Mercury lineup with what Liliputing describes as the company's smallest design yet. Specifically, the Mercury EM680 measures 80 x 80 x 43 mm, which MINISFORUM believes makes the mini-PC practically pocketable.
Nonetheless, the Mercury EM680 relies on the Ryzen 7 6800U, the APU of choice for gaming handhelds until the Ryzen 7 7840U arrived. For reference, the Ryzen 7 6800U features eight Zen 3+ CPU cores that can boost 4.7 GHz and a Radeon 680M, AMD's second most powerful iGPU after the Radeon 780M. MINISFORUM complements the Ryzen 7 6800U with LPDDR5-6400 RAM and a PCIe 4.0 SSD, the combination of which should provide smooth system performance.
Unfortunately, there are some compromises; MINISFORUM has included soldered RAM and an M.2 2230 slot rather than the longer M.2 2280 alternative. Still, the Mercury EM680 has two USB4 ports, three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports and one HDMI 2.1 connection, along with a modem that supports Bluetooth 5.3 and WiFi 6E connectivity. The entire system can be run off a 65 W Type-C charger too, negating the need for a dedicated DC input.
The Mercury EM680 starts at US$399 with 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD. Alternatively, the mini-PC is available with 32 GB of RAM and 512 GB or 1 TB of storage for US$449 and US$489, respectively. Please note that these are pre-order prices and will eventually rise by US$100, or US$120 for the top model.
