SimplyNUC joins AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS party with Moonstone mini-PC series

SimplyNUC may be known for its line of Intel NUC mini-PCs, but it also offers AMD models like the Ruby 2. Now, the company has expanded its AMD offering with Moonstone, which comes in Zen 3+ and Zen 4 variants. According to SimplyNUC, all SKUs feature housings that measure 117 x 112 x 54 mm and various ports, including USB 4, 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet and HDMI.

At launch, SimplyNUC sells its Moonstone mini-PCs with Ryzen 5 7535U, Ryzen 7 7735U and Ryzen 9 7940HS APUs. Please note that only the latter has Zen 4 CPU cores and an RDNA 3-based iGPU. Effectively, the Ryzen 5 7535U and Ryzen 7 7735U are re-branded Ryzen 5 6600U and Ryzen 7 6800U APUs, respectively. While the pair remain powerful options, particularly in a mini-PC, the Ryzen 9 7940HS blows past them in CPU and GPU-heavy tasks.

The SimplyNUC Moonstone can be configured with up to 64 GB of DDR5 RAM and 8 TB of PCIe 4.0 storage. Additionally, the mini-PC series features a 2.5-inch drive slot for further storage expansion and ships with an external 120 W PSU. SimplyNUC's latest mini-PC is available to order now, starting at US$699 with a pre-configured Ryzen 5 7535U variant. By contrast, Ryzen 7 7735U and Ryzen 9 7940HS variants start at US$839 and US$939. Currently, SimplyNUC hopes to start shipping Moonstone pre-orders in July.
