Performance-wise, the G4 Edge is even faster than similar laptop configurations thanks to the beefier cooling system. However, the port side is missing TB4 / USB4 connectivity and, despite the improved cooling solution, the CPU can get a bit hot.

The Chinese market is seeing an explosion of mini PC makers, particularly since AMD released its Phoenix APUs. Among the new makers is G4, which just released its Edge units powered by the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS. Youtuber ETA PRIME managed to get their hands on a model that also comes equipped with a laptop-grade RTX 4060 dGPU, and the performance is excellent due in part to a robust cooling system. It is only available in China for the time being, and, as we know, prices there tend to be considerably lower. Laptops with this configuration are around $1,100 right now, so a G4 Edge under $900 would be great if it hits Amazon.

While the R9 7940HS with its Radeon 780M iGPU is decent for 1080p gaming on its own, the extra oomph provided by the RTX 4060 running at 140+ W is always welcome for higher resolutions, especially in games that support the latest DLSS 3 shenanigans. However, in order to fit the cooling system, the Edge mini PC is considerably larger than the average mini PC, yet it keeps a slim appearance with its vertical orientation, resembling a smaller PS5 Slim console.

The configuration tested by ETA PRIME includes 32 GB of DDR5-4800 RAM (upgradeable to 64 GB), and there is support for 2x M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSDs together with a 2.5-inch SATA SSD. Port selection features 2x USB 2.0, 4x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, 2x HDMI 2.1 video outs, 1x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, GbE jack and mic+headphones jacks.

G4 ships this model with a 240 W power brick, which is more than enough for power usage, as tests show that the Edge rarely needs more than 200 W. Average power draw sits at 152 W and idles at 21 W, but the CPU may reach 88° C despite the expanded cooling system, although it did not throttle in tests.
