ASRock 4X4 motherboard and mini-PC series refreshed with AMD Ryzen 8040U 'Hawk Point' APUs
A few months ago, ASRock updated its 4X4 mini-PC series to Ryzen 7040U APUs, roughly six months after AMD introduced its Zen 4 and RDNA 3 APUs. Since then, AMD released Ryzen 8040U successors, full details of which we have covered separately. This time, ASRock is not waiting around, although there are a few architectural differences between Ryzen 7040U and Ryzen 8040U APUs.
Nonetheless, ASRock has now refreshed its compact mini-PC lineup with Ryzen 5 8640U and Ryzen 7 8840U options. Alternatively, the company plans to sell the same APU options as 4X4 motherboards, which measure 104 cm x 102 cm x 36 mm. For reference, both product types will support up to 96 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM via a pair of SO-DIMM slots, as well as M.2 2242 and M.2 2280 slots for two PCIe Gen 4 x4 SSDs.
Moreover, all SKUs will ship with a pair of USB4 ports that support DisplayPort 1.4a Alt Mode. Based on the company's product pages, the 4X4-8000U series also contains a 3.5 mm jack, a single USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port and two HDMI 1.4b ports. Please note that although two Ethernet ports can be seen, one operates at 2.5 Gbps, while the other is restricted to 1 Gbps. ASRock has not provided pricing information yet either, but all 4X4-8000U product pages are available to view on its website.
