Sony's compact vlog-centric ZV-E10 looks to be readying for an update before the middle of 2024. The new compact camera is rumoured to be based on the tech in the recent A6700. It will likely feature much of the same design as the outgoing model, meaning no EVF and no in-body image stabilisation, although at almost half the price of the A6700.

When Sony launched the original ZV-E10 back in 2021, the company introduced APS-C capability at Micro Four-Thirds prices, promising a rather impressive package for vloggers and hobbyists looking for an uncompromising, yet compact, camera. If recent, admittedly shaky, rumours from Sony Alpha Rumors are to be believed, Sony is looking to repeat its tricks with the next-generation ZV-E10 in early 2024.

The rumour claims that the Sony ZV-E10 will feature the same sensor and processor as the Sony Alpha 6700 that was announced earlier this year, making it a rather strong contender for anyone looking to get into photography on a budget.

The combination of the A6700's 26-MP BSI APS-C sensor and the Sony BIONZ XR processor with AI capabilities could theoretically grant the ZV-E10 II some impressive capabilities. Some features that could make it from the A6700 include 4K 120 FPS video, impressive AI-powered autofocus, and 14-stop latitude via S-Log and S-Cinetone colour spaces.

It's almost guaranteed that the ZV-E10 Mark II will feature the same Sony E Mount as its predecessor, making it plenty versatile. The E Mount sacrifices somewhat on overall kit size, though, since APS-C lenses are bigger than other compact alternatives, like Micro Four-Thirds.

The rumour lists three possible configurations and their prices for the ZV-E10 II:

  • $799: Sony ZV-E10 II body only.
  • $899 Sony ZV-E10 II and a 16–50 mm kit lens.
  • $1199: Sony ZV-E10 II Creator Kit with a shotgun mic and wireless grip.
  • $1399: Sony ZV-E10 II body with a 10–20 mm lens.

That pricing puts the second-generation ZV-E10 at around $100 more than the current-generation ZV-E10, which would be a deviation from the expectation Sony set when it launched the A6700 at the same price as its predecessor. For comparison, the A6700 launched at $1,399.

What may be a bit of a bummer for video fans is that the rumour claims the ZV-E10 II will not feature IBIS, likely in an effort to keep costs down. However, it should be noted that lenses with image stabilisation could theoretically still deliver shake-free video capture for those that need it.

If you can't wait that long, you can grab a Sony A6700 on Amazon for as little as $1,398. If you're looking for a more retro feel, the Fujifilm X-S20 comes with an XC15–45 mm kit lens for $1 more on Amazon.
