AMD's flagship Ryzen 9 8945HS showed up on Geekbench alongside Asus' upcoming ROG Zephyrus G14 gaming laptop. It performs on par with its Phoenix-based predecessor in multi-core but lags in single-core.

On paper, AMD's Ryzen 8000 Hawk Point APUs are nearly identical to their Ryzen 7000 series counterparts, with the only difference being a slightly more powerful AI processing. Initial Geekbench runs of the Ryzen 7 8840HS and Ryzen 5 8640HS effectively confirmed it. Now, the flagship Ryzen 9 8945HS has shown up on the benchmarking platform.

It scores 2,330 and 12,906 on Geekbench 6.2's single and multi-core tests in what appears to be an Asus ROG Zephyrus G14  ($1,100 on Best Buy) successor with 32 GB of DDR5 memory. The Ryzen 9 8945HS lags behind the last-gen Ryzen 9 7940HS in single-core performance (2,612 average) but keeps up in the multi-core front (12,088 average).

One can chalk the disparity to funky RAM, as Geekbench reports it to be operating at 1,594 MT/s, which is painfully slow for even DDR4, let alone DDR5. Additionally, the Ryzen 9 8945HS is throttling a little, with its peak CPU clocks hovering around the 5.16 GHz figure instead of the advertised 5.2 GHz. Once these issues are resolved, we can expect to see it perform on par with its last-gen counterpart and even trade blows with the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H, which also seems to be struggling at the moment.
