Update | Foldable iPhone Ultra confidential docs leak: 9.4mm design, Android-style selfie cameras, color options

April 27, 2026 10:10 AM GMT update
This article originally stated the upcoming Apple phone's thickness when folded is set to be 9.23mm. This is incorrect, as the 9.23mm figure in the schematics refers to the smartphone's thickness when unfolded, including the rear camera module. The actual figure is, 9.4mm, as 4.7 multiplied by 2 is 9.4. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Edited article continues as follows:
Following recent hands-on videos of iPhone Ultra/Fold dummy units, a precise set of technical schematics (sourced from a case manufacturer), has surfaced - potentially offering the most definitive look yet at the iPhone Fold’s size and design.
The leaked sketches seem to clarify the "thick boy" rumors that have circulated recently. While earlier reports suggested Apple’s first foldable would measure 11mm folded (which is on the thicker side for a modern foldable), the internal drawings show a far thinner 9.4mm folded profile with the big rear camera hump excluded.
If true, holding the iPhone Ultra/Fold shouldn't feel too different from holding an iPhone 17 Pro. In fact, 9.4mm is right in the same ballpark as some of the thinnest foldables on the market right now - those from Honor, Samsung and Oppo.

Leaked foldable iPhone drawings reveal Apple's first "Android-style" punch-hole selfie camera - interesting placement, no Face ID expected
While the chassis appears impressively slim, measuring approximately 4.7mm when unfolded, the schematics highlight a massive camera assembly. Apple’s camera bump is expected to bring the phone’s maximum thickness to approximately 13.9mm. The "plateau" is expected to accommodate two 48MP sensors - likely main and ultra-wide snappers.
For the first time, we see the location of the punch-hole selfie camera on the inner display of the foldable iPhone. If the information is accurate, Apple has placed the sensor in the left corner of the unfolded screen. Bizarrely, this means that when holding the "mini iPad" in portrait orientation, the volume buttons (placed in the top right when the phone is folded) would end up in the bottom right corner.
iPhone Ultra/Fold might measure only 9.4mm folded, show leaked schematics; two color variants
Finally, the schematics leak suggests the iPhone Ultra/Fold will be offered in two colors - black and white, which is in line with previous rumors.
It is essential to take the leaked information with a dose of scepticism. The foldable iPhone might be the most anticipated phone of the year, which means leaks and rumors about it will keep piling on.
The official iPhone Ultra/Fold unveiling is rumored to take place in September, when we expect to see two more apples - the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. No "affordable" iPhone models are expected this year. The iPhone 18, iPhone Air (2nd Gen) and iPhone 18e are reportedly coming in the spring of 2027.
