Clicks confirms launch plans for compact smartphone with keyboard
The Clicks Communicator has been available for pre-ordered for seeral weeks. The smartphone currently costs $499 plus shipping, import sales tax and customs duties. The manufacturer has now told DroidLife about the launch schedule. According to Clicks, production will not begin until the fourth quarter, with deliveries of the first pre-ordered devices scheduled to start towards the end of the year.
The smartphone will be offered with several keyboard layouts, including QWERTZ and QWERTY. In the months leading up to the launch, the manufacturer plans to publish monthly updates on the progress made. The software will be demonstrated in detail in May and Clicks intends to show a fully functional prototype in June. The third quarter is scheduled for the necessary certifications and final tests.
The Clicks Communicator is a compact mid-range smartphone that comes with Android 16 and is set to receive updates up to Android 20. Below the almost square 4-inch touchscreen is a keyboard that is touch-sensitive and therefore also functions as a trackpad, while the space bar houses a fingerprint sensor.
A shortcut button on the right-hand side can start the recording of a voice memo. The Clicks Communicator is based on a simplified user interface that is primarily optimized for communication. According to Clicks, the device is suitable as both a primary and secondary smartphone, as most Android apps are supported. The device supports Qi2, meaning it can be charged magnetically, similar to the Apple iPhone 17 ($799 on Amazon). Detailed specifications can be found at on the official product page.
