DJI is best known for its long line of consumer and enterprise-grade drones. However, it has been expanding its product line for a while now with wireless microphones, action cameras and even an alternative to Insta360's popular X5 360 degree camera (curr. $549.99 on Amazon). Now, it has confirmed that it is getting into the world of robot vacuums with the release of the DJI Romo.
As usual, DJI has only shared a teaser with the date of its next launch event. Also, it has only published its initial teaser on Chinese social media and its dedicated Chinese website. In other words, there is every chance that the company's first robot vacuum will be restricted to a Chinese release at least initially.
Nonetheless, DJI has now confirmed that the Romo is a product it intends to mass-produce and sell following months of uncertainty about the device's existence. As the video below makes clear, DJI will be presenting the Romo in China on August 6 at 20:00 local time (12:00 UTC). While the company has not yet revealed specifications, some details can be gleaned from official images. For example, the Romo has two front-facing brushes but lacks any LiDAR sensors to speak of for mapping purposes. It remains to be seen at this stage whether DJI will offer the Romo with the translucent docking system pictured, though.
