The Antigravity A1 remains the only 360° consumer drone that anyone can buy. However, DJI has long been rumoured to have an alternative in development that will sit within its Avata series. While a full release schedule remains unknown for now, the Avata 360 has been pictured numerous times in the last few months.
Now, a recent leak appears to confirm prior rumours regarding a feature that the Antigravity A1 lacks. To recap, Hakasushi claimed in November that it would be capable of rotating its camera housing, which is expected to have its roots in the Osmo 360 (curr. $384.99 on Amazon). As a result, the Avata 360 was said to not need integrated landing gear, which the Antigravity A1 requires to avoid scratching its bottom camera lens.
Fresh photos have confirmed that this earlier speculation was accurate. Although not entirely visible in the top photo, the one embedded above showcases the Avata 360 with one camera lens facing inward and the other outward. Moreover, the remote control next to shows its live feed with a regular image visible instead of a 360° equivalent.
Thus, the Avata 360 can moonlight as a first-person view (FPV) drone too, rather than just a 360° drone like the Antigravity A1. Currently, the Avata 360 is expected to capture videos in up to 8K via dual 1/1.1-inch CMOS sensors. Reportedly, the Avata 360 will start at around CNY 2,988 (~$425) when it debuts later this quarter.
