Ayaneo has recently announced the refresh of a good number of its gaming handhelds, which include the KUN and 2S. These refreshed units come with the Ryzen 7 8840U, a powerful processor from the latest Hawk Point lineup. Well, the older Ayaneo 2 and Geek are also getting the same attention but in a different way.
The company has announced that it will be offering motherboard upgrades for its 2022 gaming handheld PCs. With the upgrade, you can equip your unit with the latest Ryzen 7 8840U and up to 64 GB of RAM. The starting price of the replacement motherboard for Ayaneo 2 and Geek is $499.
Looking back, these old Ayaneo handheld gaming PCs came with Ryzen 7 6800U. While this AMD APU is still capable of playing a good number of games, the RDNA 2 Radeon 680M iGPU holds it back. The processor of the newer replacement boards brings RDNA 3 Radeon 780M, a much better gaming iGPU.
Although the prices for the replacement Ayaneo motherboards might seem cheap, you might just be better off buying a new, better-equipped gaming handheld by adding a little extra. For example, you can currently get the Lenovo Legion Go with AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme and 16 GB of RAM for $628.99 on Amazon.
Even so, it’s good to see that Ayaneo cares for its customers and is offering the option to upgrade their old gaming handhelds. You can preorder the replacement boards right now from Indiegogo, and they are expected to start shipping in August. Watch the video attached below if you would like to know what the process of removing the processor and installing a replacement board is like.
