Gaming handhelds with 1:1 aspect ratio displays are having a moment. For context, Anbernic has now officially unveiled the RG Cube, which could be the most powerful of the bunch. However, the ZPG A1 Unicorn is also in the pipeline to challenge the established Powkiddy RGB30 (curr. $95.99 on Amazon).
With that being said, only the Powkiddy RGB30 is available to purchase at this stage. Nonetheless, a copycat sold as the R40S is also available through marketplaces like AliExpress sporting the same underlying hardware as Powkiddy's RGB30. Specifically, the R40S relies upon the Rockchip RK3566, as well as 1 GB of LPDDR4 RAM and a 4,000 mAh battery.
Moreover, the R40S houses a 4.0-inch display that outputs at 720p (720 x 720). On top of that, the device includes twin microSD card slots, a pair of 1 W speakers and a modem for Bluetooth and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, all within a 145 x 86.5 x 10 mm package that weighs 211 g. The R40S has a reversed d-pad and left analogue stick though, which could make it more or less ergonomic than the RGB30, depending on the type of games you intend to play. Currently, the R40S is orderable on AliExpress for $69.99 in black, blue, yellow and white colour options.
