Apple reportedly working on an iPhone Flip as smaller alternative to the iPhone Fold

Rumours have been swirling for months that Apple plans to unveil a foldable iPhone in September 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 lineup. Whilst the device is said to be slightly shorter and wider than the Galaxy Z Fold7, it will reportedly still open from left to right like a book.
According to a recent Bloomberg report, Apple is also developing a flip phone with a form factor reminiscent of the Motorola Razr Ultra (starting at $1,022 on Amazon). This supposed iPhone Flip is said to be almost square when folded and to share a similar aspect ratio with the iPhone 17 Pro Max when open. However, this smaller foldable phone remains in the concept phase, with Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman noting that an actual launch is far from guaranteed.
Apple’s decision to move forward with the flip phone will likely hinge on the iPhone Fold’s success. Strong sales could drive demand for foldables with alternative form factors and potentially more accessible pricing. Bloomberg claims that Apple is also considering a larger “iPhone Fold Max” that would increase the secondary display’s size from 5.5 to 6.5 inches. As with the flip model, Apple has yet to finalise the design or commit to releasing the device. Even so, Apple seems to be taking the foldables market seriously, with plans to compete with foldable-phone makers like Samsung and Huawei in the future.
