Vuelim 18.5-inch wireless monitor smashes its funding goal

After a piece of flight simulator hardware with integrated displays went viral on Kickstarter recently, a new external display is now seeking backers on the crowdfunding platform. The 18.5-inch wireless monitor from Vuelim is designed to reduce clutter and improve comfort at workstations.
The product is equipped with a BOE IPS panel with Full HD resolution. Whilst the monitor can’t match the performance of modern wired displays – with its typical contrast ratio of 1000:1, 60Hz refresh rate, and 14ms response time – it does offer considerably more versatility.
The company highlights the many ways to set up the monitor, including via a 75x75mm VESA mount or the built-in kickstand. It also supports both portrait and landscape orientation. Although the Vuelim can operate as a conventional wired monitor thanks to its USB-C DisplayPort and HDMI interface, its key feature remains its wireless capability via a 5GHz Wi-Fi module, enabling it to connect wirelessly to Windows, macOS, Android and iOS devices.

Pricing and availability
For those willing to accept minor compromises in pixel density and response time, the monitor is currently available on Kickstarter at a discounted early-bird price of $229 plus shipping. However, a magnetic power bank is required for fully wireless operation; an external power source is otherwise needed. Magnetic power banks are sold separately in two capacities: The 5,000mAh and 10,000mAh models cost $25 and $35, offering up to 2 and 4 hours of use, respectively.
Important note: As with any crowdfunding campaign, this project carries inherent risks. Backers are supporting a product still in development, which means it is not guaranteed to ship and its final specifications and design may still change.
