Acer Aspire Switch Series
The Acer Aspire Switch Series is a series of portable and hybrid laptops. The design of the laptop models is stylish thanks to their attractive looking aluminium lids. The hinge of the Windows systems allows users to flip, rotate and even detach the screen from the keyboard in a snap. Each model in the Switch Series has different processors ranging from 1.33 GHz Intel Atom Z3745 up to Intel Core i5-6200U processors. There are also different options for the graphic card ranging from Intel HD Graphics up to Intel HD Graphics 5300.
In terms of storage, Acer offers two different options; 32 GB and 64 GB. There are 10.1-inch and 12-inch models. The displays are Full HD, IPS and they provide good contrast and colors from all viewing angles. In addition, they are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for additional damage and scratch resistance. The tablet part of the laptop has a USB 2.0 port, a micro HDMI port and a headset jack, while the keyboard dock has an additional USB 2.0 port. The weight of the laptop starts from 1.05 kg up to 1.6 kg depending on the model the user selects.

Late Switch? Acer has recently replaced its Clovertrail-generation W510 2-in-1 with the new Acer Aspire Switch 10, a Baytrail-T based Windows 8 PC with similar dockable tablet design. The Acer Aspire Switch 10 will compete directly with what is probably the most successful 2-in-1 yet - the Asus Transformer Book T100. Have Acer done enough to attract people away from the Transformer T100?

The Acer Aspire Switch 10 is a portable computer than you can use as a notebook or a tablet. It offers decent performance in a compact package, and it’d be easy to recommend… if the Asus Transformer Book T100 didn’t do all of those things as well, while offering longer battery life. Still, there are a few reasons to consider the Acer 2-in-1 tablet.

The Acer Aspire Switch 10 is the latest hybrid device to successfully blur the line between laptops and tablets. For $429, you get a device that can switch from laptop to tablet to presentation device with a flip of the display. Overall, we prefer the $399 ASUS Transformer Book T100, which offers longer battery life, and the $499 Dell Venue 11 Pro, which has a larger, 1080p screen.

The Acer Switch 10 is a reasonable alternative to the Asus Transformer Book T100, but because the two are so similar in price and specification, we’d buy the T100 simply because it has a slight performance edge and a better keyboard. It's a very close run thing, though, and if you're in the market for an adaptable netbook/tablet hybrid, the Switch 10 will serve you well.

If battery life is the Asus' big advantage, the bonus of versatile stand and tent modes is the Acer's. Add a slimmer, more stylish feel and, at least to our taste, a narrowly preferable screen and keyboard, and you've got one likeable detachable—a compact laptop/tablet solution that's an easy Editors' Choice.

In a recent criticism of hybrid PCs, we pointed out several factors that are holding them back, including a lack of ideal display size, so-so performance, and Windows itself. Acer’s Aspire Switch 10 does not address any of these problems and, as a result, it’s a bit flawed from the start. Yet, Acer has done whatever possible to make the best of the situation, and the result is a surprisingly likeable product.

It's hard not to like the Acer Aspire Switch 10: it's reasonably attractive and light, has the latest quad core Intel Atom CPU and a really well designed keyboard dock so you can use it like a netbook or in presentation and tent modes like a Yoga. Better yet, when you just want to use the tablet, you can detach the keyboard for less bulk and weight.

The entire device is a touch bloated (even around the screen, where there is just too much wasted space), but for $350, you get quite a bit. As a tablet, it’s an adequate performer. As a computer, it’s a more netbook than anything else. We like it for those on a budget, and on the go.

The Acer Aspire Switch 10 is a solid Windows 8.1 hybrid consisting of a decent tablet and solid keyboard dock. The current generation Atom processor is a good performer and runs Windows well. The Switch 10 is a highly portable laptop that takes advantage of Windows 8.1. Both trackpad and touch screen operation work as expected in Windows.

Although the Acer Aspire Switch 10 doesn't offer any striking new innovations, it will hook its customers in from a price perspective. Because this device ticks enough boxes to see all out war between itself and the Asus T100. If you're after Windows 8.1 on a budget then the Switch 10 is one of the few viable options in our view.

Acer Aspire Switch 10
The Acer Aspire Switch 10 beautifully integrates 2-in-1 versatility of a laptop that has the ability to transform into tablet form. The aluminum case is thin (8.9 mm), yet durable and strong. The finish with grey brush strokes oozes class and elegance. The laptop uses a custom designed hinge called Acer Snap Hinge which allows the upper panel to flip, rotate or detach easily. Even the docking connector uses magnetism to allow smooth attachment.
The Windows 8.1 Pro laptop comes with an Intel Atom quad-core processor clocked at 1.33 GHz, 2 GB DDR3L SDRAM, Intel HD Graphics and a 64 GB SSD which ensures fast booting speed. Its 10.1 inch Active Matrix TFT LCD uses IPS technology. Users will definitely appreciate the beautiful colors and contrast. Other features on the laptop include Bluetooth 4.0, card reader and HDMI out port.
The detachable keyboard and touchpad will definitely increase productivity especially during prolonged typing. The lithium polymer battery with a capacity 5700 mAh is sufficient for everyday tasks.

Most likely, it’s the 10.1in size that will determine whether this (or any similarly sized) machine makes your shortlist. A detachable, the tablet half holds almost all of the innards, including the battery. For the size it’s just right as a tablet, and feels good and light in the hand when freed of its keyboard, though the bezel takes up a great deal more space than average.

If a 2-in-1 with a detachable display is what you crave, I’d suggest taking a look at the Asus Transformer Book T100. It’s a little thicker, but it weighs about the same. More importantly, it has a better keyboard, and the 64GB model is street-priced the same as the 32GB model of the Acer Switch 10. The 64GB version of the Switch 10 reviewed here costs $80 more.

Many of my complaints are fairly minor, however. And they belie the simple fact that the Switch 10 is often a pleasure to use. On the whole, it’s a capable and very portable tablet, giving you the full Windows experience in a package that’s easy to toss into a bag or backpack. Keyboard gripes aside, I actually enjoyed spending time with the device, and frequently found myself using it as a standard slate, leaving the keyboard attachment behind.

If you are looking for a hybrid device on a budget then the Switch 10 should be given serious consideration. If you can forgive the poor quality trackpad and the low-resolution screen then there isn’t a hybrid on the market that can match the Switch 10 as a complete package.

Acer Aspire Switch 10-SW5-011-18MX
The Acer Aspire Switch 10-SW5-011-18MX is a model of Acer's Aspire Switch series which aims to attract users looking for a modern tablet notebook hybrid. The device is powered by an Intel Atom Z3745, one of few Atom processors which support 64 bit. It is slower than laptop processors, but does decently well as a tablet processor. The device is also equipped with an Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail) graphics card to provide some graphical rendering capabilities. However, don't expect too much out of it.
The 10.1 inch display has a resolution of 1366 by 768 pixels, which might feel a little lacking as other 10 inch displays have better resolutions than this. However, this helps to increase battery life for a prolonged usage. For casual usage, the screen is fine. It only shows weakness when reading small text. The small screen also makes the device light to carry around. The tablet alone only weighs 1.1 kg.
All in all, the Acer Aspire Switch 10-SW5-011-18MX is a more like a netbook made for users who don't require much in terms of processing power and prioritize mobility over functionality. However, with the abundant choices of similar devices, it's hard to say where the Acer Aspire Switch 10-SW5-011-18MX stands.

With that in mind, we think the Aspire Switch 10 2-in-1 convertible is about right for its price point and intended use. A rear camera would make the Switch 10 more useful as a tablet. Given that the Switch 10 is meant to be a go-anywhere, do-anything system, the lack of the rear camera stands out. But there is a lot to recommend the system. We like being able to split the device and ditch the keyboard in seconds.

The Acer Aspire Switch 10 is a reasonable tablet for the money, but the overall experience isn't anywhere near as good as the top tablets from the likes of Apple, Samsung or Sony. It doesn't feel as good to hold, and can be quite slow when running full x86 software.

Acer has tried to further jazz-up the Switch 10's entertainment cred with front-firing stereo speakers – under the display – but it hasn't entirely worked. Any kind of stereo is welcome, but the sound quality is more-or-less the norm for a tablet: zero bass, and fairly boxy sound. For games and movies, you'll want headphones.

Although the Acer Aspire Switch 10 is very affordable, it's another hybrid which is neither great at being a laptop nor a tablet. It's both bulky and fiddly. We like the IPS screen and the multi-mode ability thanks to the magnetic hinge (minus the top heaviness). However, the keyboard and trackpad are lacklustre and there really nothing to get excited about in terms of specs and performance. We're yet to be convinced by a hybrid.

Acer Aspire Switch 10-SW5-011-17WL
The Acer Aspire Switch 10-SW5-011-17WL is aiming at those looking for a more affordable tablet laptop hybrid. Thus a few corners needed to be cut to reduce the price. Its 10.1 inch display only comes with a 1366 x 768 resolution, while not as sharp as a lot of other devices, the IPS display gives good viewing angles and sharp colors.
It's powered by an Intel Atom Z3745 that can run up to 1.86 GHz on turbo. These chips are usually found on cheaper netbooks due to less heat production and low power consumption, which increases the battery life; but all of these are to the expense of performance so don't expect to do anything more than web browsing and typing documents.
The integrated Intel HD Graphics has less power than the ones used in standard laptops. So, only very undemanding games can be played. As it only features 2 GB of RAM, multitasking will bring performance down. The 64 GB eMMC flash memory is slower than regular SSDs, but the performance is good enough for simple tasks. Memory is expandable with a microSD card.
With the dock, the Acer weighs in at 1.1 kg, making it easy enough to carry given the size. The battery life is good for 6-8 hours of mixed use. So it is suitable for on-the-move. This device is only apt for you if you're looking for a web browsing device.

With the Aspire Switch 10, Acer has introduced a fine detachable tablet, making it a safe purchase for anyone in the market for a portable Windows tablet without giving up the productive capability of a clamshell design. The Asus Transformer Book T100TA remains our top pick given its lower price, longer battery life, and slightly more impressive feature set, but the Acer Aspire Switch 10 comes in a close second.

Acer’s play for the hybrid tablet space is an interesting one, but there are clear signs of it being a first generation product, with some design issues and a battery that needs some serious work, especially with Acer’s suggestion of up to eight hours for the HD screen missing our mark by a good three or so. That said, the inclusion of a 500GB drive could make the Acer Switch 10 particularly compelling for people who want a tablet most of the time, but still want more room to move than the tablets normally offer, and we’ll be intrigued to see where this development goes for Acer, we really will.

Acer Aspire Switch 10 SW5-012-13DP
The Acer Aspire Switch 10 is trying to be both a tablet and a touchscreen laptop. The unit feels very nice with gray or black brushed aluminum finish. The 10.1 inch Full HD Display (1920 x 1200, 16:10 aspect ratio) is protected with Gorilla Glass 3. The hardware consist of a Intel Atom Z3735F clocked at 1.83 GHz and an Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail). The detachable keyboard allows 4 different modes for the device. It is attached with Acer's Snap Hinge, which uses magnetism to provide a latch-less docking solution that lets you smoothly remove and re-attach the keyboard. The available interfaces are two USB 2.0, an HDMI port, a 3.5 mm audio jack (headphone and microphone) and a MicroSD card reader. The tablet itself is 8.9 mm high and weighs just 1.17 kg. The 24 Wh battery should last about 7.5 hours during normal WiFi use. The Acer Aspire Switch 10 is a great performer with its decent specs, great display and build quality, but its relatively low battery life is a downside. While other tablets easily exceed the Switch 10's battery life, this might be the right device for you if you require higher performance.Specifications

Brillant. Acer's smallest convertible is now available with a Full-HD display. The price difference is only 30 Euro (~$37) and seems to be well worth it. But is the battery life is shorter than before and how fast is the new CPU? In our review, we try to answer both questions and take a detailed look at the display as well.

In many ways, this is a current-day netbook. It serves its purpose and has a very reasonable price tag, but it isn't entirely satisfying to use. You cannot really enjoy videos on this screen and even basic tasks require some adjustment. The keyboard is handy, but you can forget about typing long documents on it unless you're a hunt-and-peck two-finger typist anyway.

The Switch 10 is an easy to use device that allows you to properly use it in tablet mode without a physical keyboard annoying you at the back. Switching between tablet and laptop use is easy, but the downside is that when it comes to actual performance, there are enough hiccups to make it a less than enjoyable experience, which is a shame. Still, the Switch 10 does get points for its portability factor, and is a good option for someone who wants the freedom to switch between a tablet or a laptop in a snap.

The simple notch and magnet design for holding the tablet to the base is a good one, though we can’t help but feel as though there should be more to this product. As a notebook, it leaves you wanting a better typing and touchpad experience, and it can be frustrating when the device leans back on its own due to the weight of the tablet.

The Acer Aspire Switch 11 is a more attractive device than the Switch 10 with a larger screen and better specs. However, we're still not convinced by the chunky, top heavy design and the device let itself down with poor battery life. It might be more affordable but there are much better hybrids out there.

Shaky candidate. When a Windows tablet provides sufficient performance, ports, input devices and storage capacity, why would you need a conventional notebook or even a desktop PC? Acer brings the advantages of a laptop to a tablet via keyboard dock including hard drive.
Acer Aspire Switch 11 SW5-111-187P
Bringing a laptop and tablet around is rather troublesome, and Acer Switch tries to solve this issue with a laptop tablet hybrid. The Switch series comes with a unique mechanical design that is able to detach the screen part of the laptop and use it as a tablet, and the Switch 11 is no exception. The Switch 11 is a slightly larger version of the Switch 10, with a dimension of 11.6 inch compared to the 10.1 inch Switch 10. There are several specifications for the Switch 11, and the SW5-111-187P configuration is a more affordable build targeting mainstream consumers. This particular model uses a 1366 x 768 resolution touchscreen, while better models have resolutions up to 1080p FHD. The Switch 11 is also slightly on the heavy side at 1.6 kg, with the detachable tablet alone weighing 838 g. The specifications are rather mediocre. With an Intel Atom Z3745 processor, integrated Intel graphics card and 2 GB of RAM, which is sufficient for casual and work use. The 32 GB SSD slightly improves performance, but the low capacity means that users will have to depend on an external hard disk or cloud storage almost completely.Specifications

Just as happened when I tested its predecessor, my feelings about the Switch 11 changed during use. The initial grumbles at the low benchmark scores were put to one side when it handled a 1080p video with ease, bearing in mind the price tag is still lower than Apple's starting price for a 16GB iPad Air 2.

Acer has a winner with its new Aspire Switch 11. This laptop is attractive to behold, and the screen quality is excellent. Both of these are coupled with a solid design allowing the machine to be the best of both worlds -- when using it as a laptop, you'd hardly realize it's really a tablet attached to a keyboard. And when used as a tablet, it stands out among many Windows slates with thanks, again, to its design.

Sure, there’s some parts of the Acer Switch 11 which don’t feel quite as “tight” as they should be. The trackpad didn’t seem to be as sensitive as I’m used to and the build quality in some areas could’ve been slightly better, but at the price, for what you’re getting here, it’s really rather good. I’ve got the full Windows 8.1 OS, I’ve got a neat touch-screen interface and the full-fat desktop OS. There’s 32GB of storage to play with, but you can slot in memory sticks and use cloud storage if you want to store files elsewhere and it operated quickly and quietly, without complaint.

The Aspire Switch 11 isn't the most exciting device. It has a dull design and middling internal specifications, and offers the average performance you'd expect from a sub-£400 device. That said, there are a few positives, chief of which are the robust design and above average battery.

It’s worth considering if you’re in the market for a cheap, versatile machine that lets you casually browse the web and watch TV shows and movies without issue. As hybrids go, it’s relatively unremarkable, but the multi-mode hinge is a killer feature lacking in similarly priced and even more expensive models, and battery life is good.

If you are looking for an all around good system, the ACER Switch 11 might be a great choice. Running Windows 8.1 Pro (upgradable to Windows 10 when that is released), you can run any software compatible with Windows. In tablet mode it can be used in tight locations or as a light weight system. The addition of the keyboard allows it to be utilized as a great display or a laptop. The Switch 11 is a great option for those that want the best of portability and productivity.

If you’re after a Surface Pro 4, but don’t have quite enough cash, then the Acer Switch Alpha 12 is a solid choice. The basic Intel Core i3 model I reviewed offers fantastic value for money. For a modest £600 Acer’s offering the main tablet section plus an attachable keyboard and active stylus – two add-ons for which most companies charge as much as £150 extra.

The major thing going for the Acer Aspire Switch 12, is definitely its form factor. The detachable keyboard which can still be used to control the 2-in-1 is something unique, as so far the 2-in-1s we have seen require that the keyboard be connected to the tablet portion and the electrical contacts maintain the communication. Detaching the keyboard lets you place the keyboard at any place close to the Aspire 12 that is convenient for you and not constrict yourself to the limitations you would face when the keyboard had to be attached. This of course has some disadvantages, chief among them being limited lappability.

Aspire Switch 12 is not only well built, it is smartly built. The design is functional, but nothing too special. Also the construction feels sturdy, a bit heavy, but overall compact. The hinge seems to be a bit loosened at times, but it packs an extra 3-pin port for keyboard charging and features a USB 2.0 port. The display has a quality 12.5-inch panel that packs a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and considering the stereo speakers, Acer didn’t leave out the multimedia. It also offers a fairly good protection with Gorilla Glass 3.

Acer Aspire Switch 11 SW5-171-325N
The Acer Aspire Switch 11 SW5-171-325N is another good example of devices catered to the all-in-one market segment. The key factor is for a device to assume multiple roles normally form a traditional laptop to a more portable table and to do it well. The silver hybrid device has clean lines and a black tile keyboard contrasting the rest of the body. The Acer Aspire Switch 11 (SW5-171-325N) is an excellent detachable-hybrid tablet. We really like the Switch 11 because of its versatile magnetic hinge, lack of bloatware, and 1080p IPS touch screen. Its no-nonsense magnetic hinge is the real deal, and makes it one of the best implementations of a flexible, removable tablet. It is a more stable and usable solution than the one on rivals like the Asus Transformer Book T200TA-C1-BL and Toshiba Satellite Click 2 L35W-B3204.

The Acer Aspire Switch 11 with a Core i3 processor is a reasonably powerful, reasonably compact computer that’s available for a reasonably good price (at least when it’s on sale for $450). It features more memory, more storage, and a faster processor than you’d find in many other affordable 2-in-1 tablets. But the Switch 11 also has some shortcomings.

The Acer Aspire Switch 11 is neither a slayer of notebooks nor of tablets, but a fairly good compromise between the two. For $649, you get a hybrid with solid performance, a nice 1080p display and a speedy SSD. It's $180 cheaper than the base model of the Surface Pro 3 when equipped with a keyboard cover.

However, the Switch 11 falls short in two areas key to any compact laptop: flexibility and battery life. The device works well as a tablet, but its top-heavy design causes it to tip over whenever you use it in laptop mode on an uneven surface. And while its battery life is enough to get you through most of the workday, other convertibles will take you further.

Acer Aspire Switch 10E SW3-013
The Acer Aspire Switch 10E SW3-013 is a 2 in 1 Windows 8 laptop and tablet that comes with a myriad of features. 2-in-1 entry point. Acer have had a good run with their 10-inch Switch series. Good value was always at the heart of the offering so it's difficult to see how the new Switch 10E fits in to the pricing and value equation. We take a deep and detailed look in the full Acer Aspire Switch 10E review below.

The Acer Aspire Switch 10E tries to lower the barrier of entry for anyone desiring the taste of a 2-in1 tablet-laptop hybrid significantly. At Rs.30,000, it offers a 10-inch netbook with a detachable screen with enhanced touch input. While the device’s screen and bottom panel are encased in a textured blue plastic case that feels nice to touch and hold, the device itself seems bulky and thick – negating the effect created by its brightly coloured shell.

You need to keep the targeting of the Switch 10 Special Edition in mind when looking at its benchmark numbers. This hybrid, from its design to its price point, is designed to be an entry-level product for budget-conscious consumers. And from that perspective, the Switch 10 performs well enough.

With such a low price point, the Acer Switch 10 E is a bit of a bargain. While not the most powerful device around, it’s still perfectly capable for those who want to do little more than edit a document or two, or browse the web while on the move. Battery life is decent and there’s nothing objectionable about the hardware.

While it might not be the fastest or flashiest hybrid out there, it's a well-priced machine with enough oomph to handle most everyday tasks. For anyone in the market for a cheap Windows device, this will just about do the job. But if you’ve got an extra bit of cash available, the £350 Asus Transformer Book T100 Chi offers more power and fewer compromises.

The Acer Aspire Switch 10 E presents consumers with a commendable value proposition. For $349, you're getting a highly usable detachable device which works great as a mini-notebook, a tablet, or in its in-between tent and display modes. Also notable are its outstanding keyboard and touch pad plus a 500GB storage drive in the keyboard base. We measured class-topping battery life with enough stamina for a full workday's use.

A small hybrid with extra storage. Little about the Acer Switch 10 E jumps out at first. The screen is overly glossy and the top-heavy body tends to tip over backward if you're not being careful. Performance is decent, but not what you'd need for an all day, every day mission-critical computer.

I like the Acer Aspire Switch 10 E. Yes, it's the least powerful machine in our round-up, but it also fills a very specific, very portable niche. That's more than I can say of the Acer Aspire E-15, for instance—a relatively powerful machine that unfortunately does nothing to distinguish itself from Toshiba's more powerful C55-C. The Switch 10 stands out, and there are plenty of valid reasons why you might choose to carry one. Would I use it as my default machine? Probably not. It's a bit too small and slow for it to be someone's primary device, I think. But it would be great as a situational supplement to a better-equipped computer.

The Acer Switch 10 we reviewed in June of 2014 had a lot going for it. It had similar specs to this model, except the 2014 version had the Intel Atom chip with higher memory bandwidth and a slightly higher Turbo Boost clock, plus a slightly higher resolution display. It was still slow, but it was otherwise a decent budget PC.

Despite its off-putting design, the $349 Acer Aspire Switch 10 E has several positive qualities that shouldn't be overlooked. For starters, there's the nearly 8.5 hours of battery life that will get you through a full workday or school day. The hybrid is also highly versatile, transforming among four modes with a quick snap and a twist.

The Acer Aspire Switch 10 E is a solid budget device, but like any budget machine there are concessions. The most notable of which comes from the device’s lackluster performance. The Atom processor and slow HDD shouldn’t be too big a problem for people looking to complete simple computing tasks, but try for anything more and you’re going to notice to the laptop’s shortcomings. We would have loved to have seen a higher resolution screen, but the durable gorilla glass finish and solid color contrast proved to be a nice touch. The quality keyboard and touchpad were a pleasure to use and NBR still loves the latchless hinge design.

When it comes down to it, the Acer Aspire Switch 10 E doesn't offer performance or enough features to make it a worthwhile. Its low-brow hardware, an Intel Atom processor and barely HD display don't measure up against its competitors. Beyond that, the battery, which is supposed to last for 12 hours, is beaten in benchmarks by the Asus Transformer Book T100 Chi , and it takes forever to recharge.

The Acer Aspire Switch 10 E for 2015 looks like a possibly good choice for those after a Windows 2-in-1 laptop and tablet without breaking the bank. However, it's a shame that not much has been changed from the original.

Along with all ports - bar the USB 3.0, which is on the keyboard dock - the tablet carries the 30Wh battery, delivering a suggested 12-hours of life per charge. For a small product that's exceptional - but we'll need to get a review device to text just how true that is. It might be budget and have quirky looks, but as 2-in-1s go, the Acer Aspire Switch 10 E looks to be a respectable addition to the Switch family from what we've seen.

The Acer Aspire Switch 10 E is set to go on sale in the UK from around May, with prices starting from £280. It certainly has potential to capture the budget end of the hybrid market, as even if it won't set the world alight in terms of performance it works brilliantly in both tablet and laptop modes. We'll be taking a more in-depth look a little closer to launch, so be sure to check back for our final verdict.

Acer's entry in the 2-in-1 market provides a very functional tablet that can also convert into a tablet system. Its small size obviously means that there are compromises to it compared to a hybrid laptop but those knowing these limitations may be surprised at what it has to offer. Just be warned of some issues with weight distribution in the docked modes.

Though some aspects of the Acer Aspire Switch 11 V's physical design could stand to be improved, its performance and high-quality display are highlights. Across the board, it's faster than the similarly priced or less expensive competition, and is an upgrade on the already-good Acer Switch 11. While the many of the physical characteristics remain the same, the Switch 11 V performs better and adds dual-band Wi-Fi for $50 less.

Acer's Aspire Switch 11 V is no runway model, but devices in its budget category rarely are. It's function over form here and the 11 V is as functional as they come. Yes, its battery is terrible, but its easy convertibility and rock-solid inputs more than make up for it. If you don't have a lot to spend (and you don't mind your devices a little homely), then the Aspire Switch 11 V is a 2-in-1 worth considering.

I can't help but feel slightly let down by the Aspire Switch 11 V. On the face of it, it's a fantastic-value 2-in-1 with oodles of storage, a great keyboard dock and decent performance. However, things fall apart in the energy efficiency stakes, which is where a light 2-in-1 should shine. Under five hours of battery life is unacceptable, as are the roasting temperatures on the rear of the tablet. It's frustratingly close to greatness, but it just falls short.

At first glance, a 2-in-1 seems smart except evidence suggests few people want or need Windows tablets. Acer has also failed to address critisicms of last year's Switch 11 in this new model. This leaves us an underpowered, ill-balanced and clunky little laptop with mediocre battery life and a nice screen. A better Windows laptop is the £650 ZenBook UX305. But if you need a tablet, buy an iPad Air 2 for £399.

The Acer Aspire Switch 11 V has decent screen, good keyboard and is tough enough for everyday duties. Plus, you get the whole Windows 10 benefit as well. There are some issues, however. The weight of the device will be a problem if you want to carry the Acer Switch around with you for prolonged periods. In addition, it offers a relatively short battery life when viewing media and other performance hitting tasks. Then we come to the Acer Switch's overall cost.

The Acer Aspire Switch 11 V is the most affordable Core M hybrid of the moment, with an announced MSRP of roughly $500. The device itself checks most of the right boxes, although some corners were cut here and there, and is a good option for those of you looking after a fanless 2-in-1 with a bit more oomph under the hood. The excellent price comes as a bonus.

With its long-lasting battery power, more storage than its rivals, and the extra versatility you get with a keyboard dock, the Acer Aspire Switch 10 E a winning entry-level tablet. We gave the Asus Transformer Book T100TA a slightly higher rating because it faced less stiff competition when we tested it, but the Aspire Switch 10 E's lower price, longer battery life, and 500GB of additional hard drive storage make it a much better buy.

The Acer Aspire Switch 11v may not dazzle with special features like the Yoga Tab 3 Pro's projector, or come with a responsive and accurate stylus like Microsoft's Surface tablets. And sure, the Core M processor lacks the impressive power of its Core i brethren. But the Switch 11v is a well-designed Windows 10 tablet that quickly and easily converts into a laptop, while that keyboard is more likely to appease touch typists than the Surface's one-piece Type Cover. If you're not bothered about flashy features or desktop levels of performance, the Switch 11v is a solid choice.

Acer Aspire Switch 10 Special Edition is a perfectly lovely laptop for everyday needs. When used as a laptop, it functions perfectly and doesn't betray the fact that it has a removable display. The tablet portion is especially lovely, particularly with the inclusion of Gorilla Glass for a shiny surface. It does lie on the chunkier side of the ultrabook spectrum, but is still an overall small notebook. If you're looking for something to take with you to the classroom, to use at a cafe, for the kids, or for general use, this Switch model will suit you just fine.

Fighting spirit. A small 10-inch convertible from Acer has high ambitions and turns out to be competitive thanks to a decent display as well as good input devices. Good: The 2-in-1 waives an active cooling solution and is therefore always silent.

Flexible. Acer's Switch 12S is a 12.5-inch detachable equipped with a bright, contrasty display and optional pen input. The Switch costs 1200 Euro (~$1330) - way too much in our opinion.

While an overall good device, it's hard to call the Aspire Switch 12S anything but ordinary these days, in a segment where you can actually find a few extraordinary devices. For the right price though, it could be the right pick for some of you, but until it gets cheaper, your money are better spent elsewhere.

Acer Aspire Switch Alpha 12 SA5-271-56HM
The Acer Aspire Switch Alpha 12 SA5-271-56HM is a convertible laptop designed for users who are looking for doing some work and play on-the-go. The chassis is made out of brushed aluminium and has good craftsmanship. It comes pre-installed with Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit edition, has a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5-6200U processor, an Intel HD Graphics 520 graphic card, 4 GB DDR3L RAM and a 128 GB SSD. It features a 12-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2160 x 1440 pixels and multi-touch capability. Pictures and text look sharp and detailed on the display and the viewing angles are good, but the display can be highly reflective. Thus, it is not suitable for use in the sun. The keyboard is comfortable, easy to type on and facilitates working in the dark and low lighting conditions thanks to its backlight. The touchpad is responsive, easy to use and it supports Microsoft Windows 10 gestures. In addition, the keyboard can be detached from the screen anytime to allow the screen to be used as tablet. The connectivity includes a USB 3.1 port, a USB 3.0 port, a headphone/microphone audio combo jack and a MicroSD card reader. The laptop weighs 1.2 kg with keyboard and 900 g without it. Its battery life can last up to 5:21 hours based on Wi-Fi web surfing.Specifications

Absolute silence. A liquid cooling system in a convertible does not work? Of course it does! For the first time ever, Acer has installed a silent cooling technology in a high-performance convertible based on Intel's Core i5 and i7 processors. This innovation is not the only reason that it is going to get rough on the competition.

All in all, Acer Switch Alpha 12 a fairly good 2-in-1 that works well both as a laptop and a tablet. It's quite premium looking and at a price tag of Rs 53,990, we think is quite a good deal. Some of the notable features include Windows 10, Liquid cooling. The included stylus and keyboard folio further enhance user experience. But just in case you're looking for alternatives and are willing to shell out more money, you can go for the HP Elite x2, which starts at a price of Rs 91,449.

As Acer accurately advertised, the device is capable of handling more demanding tasks and the performance is on par with a normal 15-inch laptop. The LiquidLoop cooling system is excellent and withstood our extreme test quite well. Apart from raw performance, the device offers good multimedia experience too. The display covers almost all of the sRGB gamut, it has high contrast ratio and it’s bright enough for outdoor use. And despite the pixel-packed QHD panel, Acer’s Switch Alpha 12 delivers excellent battery life, particularly on web browsing test. We can’t miss to mention, though, that the display uses PWM – except at 100% brightness – and the frequency of the emitted light is relatively low and thus has a bigger impact on one’s eyesight. Nevertheless, this can be avoided when using our Health-Guard profile.

Acer promised us a tablet with laptop-class performance and a fanless design… and the company delivered on that promise. I’ve spent the last two weeks testing the Acer Switch Alpha 12, and I really did find myself using it as a notebook replacement for most of that time. Occasionally I picked it up to read an article or eBook or to test the pen input.

Acer Aspire Switch Alpha 12 SA5-271-31YN
The Switch Alpha 12 is the predecessor of Acer’s fan-less CPU innovation. Powered by the LiquidLoop cooling, the CPU performance stays optimal without generating fan noise, thereby making this machine quiet and powerful. As suggested by its name, the Switch Alpha 12 is easily convertible from a tablet to a full-fledged laptop mode. Ergonomically, it is fitted with a kickstand which provides support for the screen when it is fitted with the keyboard. This machine is largely metal-built with aluminium as its main component. Its 12-inch touchscreen features a resolution of 2160 x 1440 pixels and uses IPS technology. The Windows 10 system is powered by an Intel Core i3-6100U processor with 4 GB RAM. Graphics are rendered by an Intel HD Graphics 400. In addition, it comes with a 128 GB SATA SSD. Standard connectivity is available on this machine with one USB 3.0 and one USB 3.1 Type-C port as well as a microSD card slot. Networking is supported by both WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. Users may also opt for the Acer Active Pen, which is sensitive and capable of precise input. The battery life is decent with up to 8 hours.Specifications

Where things become more complicated is in the difference between input devices. We spend so much of our time on these devices interacting with the included keyboard and trackpad. So much so that I don’t think it’s unreasonable, depending on a person’s budget, to purchase a lower specced machine if it means coming away with a computer that has a better keyboard and trackpad. While it would be hard for me to get a new computer with less than 8GB of RAM, depending on your computing needs, a Surface Pro model with 4GB of RAM and a Core M3 processor may be enough, especially if all do with your computer is surf the web, send emails and watch YouTube.

As a full laptop-replacement the Acer Switch Alpha 12 ticks many of the right boxes. The integrated stand is solid, the silent operation from the LiquidLoop cooling system is an obvious benefit, there's as much power on hand as a Microsoft Surface Pro 4, ample screen brightness and resolution, while the keyboard dock and stylus are both included in the box (in the UK).

Overall, I feel Acer has done a noteworthy job here, with the Switch Alpha 12 really proving its worth. With a superbly crafted design and a surprising amount of oomph under the hood, you get a whole lot for your money, even if the display and keyboard aren't quite up to the best we've seen.

Better take the entry-level model with i5. This update will reveal why the expensive i7 model does not pay off for typical buyers. In addition, we will compare the test model to the popular Surface Pro 4, MateBook, Miix 700 and Spectre x2 12 convertibles.

The Acer Aspire Switch Alpha 12 represents a strong value, standing as one of the fastest midrange tablets we've tested, but coming in at a reasonable price. The screen is sharp with a high resolution, and the USB-C port is a welcome addition to the single USB 3.0 port. There are some letdowns with the overall design, though, like the cheap hinge and the average keyboard. Given that the Acer's speed boost over the Lenovo IdeaPad Miix 700 is modest and we like that tablet's design a bit more.

For its price class, the Acer Aspire Switch Alpha 12 delivers excellent performance in a well-thought-out design, and it includes a great keyboard. While the display is good, it's not as contrasty or vivid as the OLED models on other 2-in-1s. And it's got a middling pen system. The Acer Switch Alpha offers a surprisingly great design and feature set in a 2-in-1 for the money without sacrificing power.

The most notable rival to the Switch Alpha 12 is the better looking and hugely capable Microsoft Surface Pro 4. However, with a $899 starting price tag (for an Intel Core m-equipped device), it is considerably more expensive than similarly equipped Acer devices. The excellent keyboard for the Surface costs additional $130.

Long-lasting. Acer's 10.1-inch convertible Windows laptop carries a price tag of about 360 Euros (~$390). The little device runs silently and offers a long battery life. It is also equipped with a Type C USB port (USB 3.1 Gen 1).

Acer Switch Alpha 12 SA5-271-57QF
The Acer Switch Alpha 12 SA5-271-57QF is Acer’s attempt to rival the Microsoft Surface. It aims to offer the same tablet-first convertible experience but at a significantly more competitive price tag. The Switch Alpha 12 generally delivers solid performance and will meet most Windows fans' tablet and laptop needs. There are no vents or fans on the Switch Alpha 12, because it's the first water-cooled 2-in-1 on the market. Competitors who use Intel's low-power Core M CPUs, including the HP Spectre x2, also avoid fans, but do not need water cooling, because their less powerful processors don't generate as much heat. The 2.3-GHz Intel Core i5-6200U CPU, 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD of the Switch Alpha 12 make it a fine productivity machine. The Switch's integrated HD 520 graphics card cannot handle demanding games like Overwatch or The Witcher, but casual games and watching videos will be just fine. The front of the device boasts a 12-inch, 2160 x 1440 display surrounded by a thick bezel. The touch screen on the Switch Alpha 12 is bright and produces vivid, beautiful colours, but it's slightly on the warm side. The panel reproduces an excellent 101 percent of the sRGB colour gamut, which is higher than the category average of ultraportable notebooks (90 percent).
The bottom of the tablet features magnets that connect to the keyboard cover, which can be laid flat or propped up at an angle. When paired with the keyboard cover, the Alpha 12 measures 11.5 x 7.9 x 0.6 inches and weighs 2.8 pounds. Without it, the dimensions shrink to 2 pounds and 0.4 inches in thickness. For the Switch Alpha 12, Acer opted for a Surface-inspired 2-in-1 design that combines a tablet, a kickstand and a keyboard. The kickstand pulls away from the aluminum rear of the device, which features a brushed look and Acer's logo, as well as a 5-megapixel camera. The Switch Alpha 12 has a fair share of some useful Acer utilities, which are mostly focused on the cloud. Acer Portal lets users organize files that are created in abFiles and abPhoto. Recovery Management assists in making backups and restoring data, while Quick Access lets user access features such as Bluelight shield and adaptive brightness. The Switch Alpha 12 has the most useful combination of ports of any 12-inch convertible. Its right side is home to a headphone/microphone combo jack, a USB-3.0 port, a USB Type-C port, a power jack and a microSD card slot. The addition of a USB 3.1 port that can be used to power devices, transfer files or attach the device to an external monitor is another nice bonus. The accompanying full-size USB-3.0 port makes the Switch Alpha 12 significantly better connected than many competing convertibles.

It’s easy to like Acer Switch Alpha 12 SA5-271-57QF if you’re after a lightweight, compact and fast detachable 2-in-1 laptop. I say fast because the i5 processor and 256GB SSD will make using this notebook feel snappy, and you can surely throw in more exotic programs than a Chrome browser or MS Office suite. The battery life is not magnificent, you can uninstall bloatware to combat with that. All in all, go for the Acer and get a small powerhouse!

A convertible laptop for home. Acer wants about 250 Euros (~$265) for their new 10.1-inch convertible Windows laptop: the Switch One. The few hundred bucks will get you a silent computer with long battery life - and a surprisingly bright, contrast-rich IPS display.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Intel Atom: The Intel Atom series is a 64-Bit (not every model supports 64bit) microprocessor for cheap and small notebooks (so called netbooks), MIDs, or UMPCs. The speciality of the new architecture is the "in order" execution (instead of the usual and faster "out of order" execution). Therefore, the transistor count of the Atom series is much lower and, thus, cheaper to produce. Furthermore, the power consumption is very low. The performance per Megahertz is therfore worse than the old Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz on par with a 1.6 GHz Atom).

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

12.00:
This range of display format is largely the upper limit for tablets and the lower limit for subnotebooks.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small in size and therefore easily portable. The tiny display has the added advantage of requiring little power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is exhausting for the eyes. High resolutions, which one is used to from a standard laptop, are almost not usable.
The same applies to tablets in this size range.

73.85%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
