ASUS ROG Phone 8 series design confirmed in first official teaser
ASUS has officially started teasing its next gaming smartphone. While the company has not revealed a release date yet, it has confirmed the device's marketing name and provided an early look at its design. As expected, ASUS will replace its ROG Phone 7 smartphones with the ROG Phone 8 series. Currently, it is unclear whether the device shown is the regular ROG Phone 8 or a more premium example.
For context, recent benchmark leaks revealed that ASUS has created at least two variants with AI2401_A and AI2401_D model numbers. Based on their respective Geekbench listings, both will utilise Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets, which ASUS hinted as much in October. However, the inclusion of 24 GB of RAM within AI2401_D implies that this model will eventually launch as the ROG Phone 8 Ultimate, with AI2401_A set to serve as the regular ROG Phone 8.
Seemingly, the ROG Phone 8 series will sport a toned-down design from its predecessor's, which featured comparatively elaborate branding and details across its back panel. Also, although a triple rear-facing camera setup remains, ASUS has redesigned its housing to sit prouder from the ROG Phone 8's back panel than it does on the ROG Phone 7 series. Additionally, gamer-focused touches like a landscape-mounted USB Type-C port returns, as does ASUS's prominent Republic of Games (ROG) logo. Presumably, ASUS will outline more details about the ROG Phone 8 series throughout the holiday period and into early 2024.
