A20 Pro showcases greater peak CPU performance than the M5 Max on Geekbench 7

Apple's new A20 Pro chipset powers the iPhone 18 Pro phones and the foldable iPhone Duo. While none of these devices are yet available for purchase, they have begun appearing on benchmark listings since Apple's launch event, with the latest showing stellar peak performance.
A device listed as iPhone 19,3 and with the "V64AP" motherboard designation has now appeared on Geekbench 7. While the listing outlines the CPU as an "Intel Pentium II/III", every other hardware identifier indicates that the device is indeed an iPhone with the A20 Pro, and more specifically the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Impressively, this device records a single-core score of 4,042 and a multi-core score of 11,691 on Geekbench 7. That single-core score, in particular, makes it the most powerful CPU ever tested on the benchmark, with its nearest rival being the M5 Max on the 16-inch MacBook Pro—which scores 3,785. Of course, the 18-core M5 Max blows the 6-core A20 Pro away on the multi-core test.
It's imperative to note that this is becoming typical of Apple's flagship chipsets, as the A19 Pro outperformed the M4 and almost matched the M4 Max in single-core performance at launch a year ago. The smartphone SoC only holds an advantage in peak burst performance, however, and is utterly dominated under sustained workloads and on the GPU side.
