With the iPhone Duo on shelves, what does Apple still have in store for 2026?

Despite the iPhone Duo foldable already being out, Apple is far from done for the year.

Despite the iPhone Duo foldable already being out, Apple is far from done for the year.
The iPhone Duo is undoubtedly Apple's most important product launch in recent memory. While non-enthusiasts may think Apple may be done for the year, the company is actually expected to bring major updates to its MacBook and iPad lineups later this year.

With the iPhone 18 generation and the brand-new iPhone Duo having already been announced, many might assume Apple might be done for the year. However, as those who keep up with the rumor mill know, that is far from the truth.

Apple actually has a bunch of product announcements remaining for the year, along with one specifically important one - the next-generation MacBook Pro.

Before we talk about the MacBook Pro, it is worth mentioning that the company is also likely to introduce an M6-powered iMac, although that one is not expected to feature any design improvements or changes whatsoever. The new iMac will ship in new colors, however, for those who care.

The M6 SoC was revealed alongside an updated Mac mini last month.

Now, let's get to the MacBook Pro. In fact, there is a real possibility that this new high-end MacBook Pro might even be called the MacBook Ultra. This tandem-OLED display-equipped MacBook Pro family has been rumored for a while now, which is expected to be powered by the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips as the current-gen variant.

MacBook Pro OLED: Display with more colors than ever before

According to leaks by TrendForce, the MacBook Pro's OLED display is expected to cover a whopping 95% of the BT.2020 color gamut.

For those who are not aware of what that is exactly supposed to mean, here is a simple explanation -  the BT.2020 color gamut covers a whopping 75.8% of the visible spectrum, whereas the DCI-P3 color gamut, which many Apple products feature complete coverage for, covers only 53.6% of the visible spectrum.

In fact, for the first time ever on a Mac, the laptop is also expected to feature a touch-sensitive display. Moreover, Mark Gurman, as well as a few other notable leakers, have repeatedly stressed that Apple might be focusing on thinness once again, although we have yet to encounter any leaked renders or exact product dimensions.

Given Apple's proficiency with silicon, the company is more than likely to pull off a thinner MacBook Pro design without sacrificing performance, at least SKUs with "Pro" SoCs.

That said, we already know for a fact that the M5 Max-equipped MacBook Pro 14" struggles a lot with thermals, which does make the prospect of an even thinner design somewhat worrisome.

A jump to the M6 generation might have allowed for a thinner design without major thermal woes, courtesy of the new SoC's efficiency improvements.

Straight to M7: No M6 Pro/Max SKUs this time around

However, rumors now indicate that Apple has actually canceled the M6 Pro and Max SKUs, having chosen to focus on the M7 generation of SoCs instead, likely to grace the MacBook Pro lineup sometime next year.

All that said, the mini LED-equipped MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro and Max accessories will also continue to be sold alongside the new OLED-equipped MacBook Pro or Ultra. In fact, mini LED-equipped MacBook Pros are likely to stay on Apple's roster till around 2028 or so.

iPad Pro and iPad Air enthusiasts are unlikely to receive any more updates this year. However, the next generation iPad Mini with an OLED display and an SoC bump has been rumored for an October launch, albeit most likely through a press release rather than a live in-person event. The tablet is also expected to feature an A19 Pro SoC, as well as faster Wi-Fi.

A new iPad mini with an OLED display is scheduled to arrive later this year.
