Apple A20 Pro storms Geekbench with near-5 GHz clocks and a massive single-core lead over Qualcomm and MediaTek

Apple's A20 Pro has appeared on Geekbench for the first time, shortly after it was unveiled alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo. Its maiden run effectively blows the competition out of the water, effectively setting a new standard that Android OEMs will likely keep chasing for generations to come.

The Geekbench 6.7 result comes from an iPhone19,3 (likely iPhone 18 Pro Max) and shows the A20 Pro scoring 4,725 points in single-core and 12,575 points in multi-core. Geekbench identifies a six-core CPU arranged in a 2+4 configuration, with the two performance cores reaching 4.93 GHz. The device comes with 12 GB of physical RAM. Its  sky-high single-core performance is tacit proof that the A20 Pro might indeed be using ‘Super’ P-cores from the Apple M6, although no Geekbench listings of the chip exist as a reference.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 trails by a surprisingly large margin in an early Geekbench listing alongside what is believed to be an iQOO flagship. The eight-core SM8975 scored 3,434 points in single-core and 9,334 in multi-core despite reaching an even higher peak frequency of 5.01 GHz. Based on these individual runs, the A20 Pro is around 38% faster in single-core performance and 35% faster in multi-core. 

The story is more or less the same with the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro. Leaked Geekbench 6.7 scores suggest it averages at around 3,400 and 12,000 points in its single and multi-core tests. The Apple A20 Pro, once again, has a sizable lead in single-core performance, although the multi-core competition is a lot closer. 

Xiaomi's Xring O3 is another interesting contender. In the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max, the 10-core chip scores 3,699 points in single-core and 14,350 in multi-core. The A20 Pro is around 28% faster in single-core performance, but Xiaomi turns the tables in multi-core, where Xring O3 leads Apple's six-core chip by roughly 14%.

The A20 Pro's GPU has surfaced as well. A separate Geekbench 6.7 Metal run from the same iPhone19,3 scores 64,069 points and explicitly identifies the graphics processor as the Apple A20 Pro GPU. Performance shows an even larger generational uplift. The A20 Pro GPU scores 64,069 points in Geekbench Metal, compared with 45,683 points for the A19 Pro in an iPhone 17 Pro Max. That makes the new GPU roughly 40% faster in this particular benchmark, proving Apple's claims about its performance. One can attribute that to numerous factors, such as an extra GPU core and the transition to TSMC’s newer GAAFET-based N2 node.
