Suunto smartwatches gain advanced running metrics with new Stryd app
Suunto now provides enhanced metrics for runners via the new Stryd sport app. Stryd is a running power meter that attaches to your trainer and is available to purchase separately. The device can track your running performance and suggest optimizations, such as altering your pace.
With the new SuuntoPlus Stryd sport app, smartwatch users can access Stryd’s more advanced metrics mid-workout. These include Leg Spring Stiffness (LSS), which quantifies the use of elastic energy in the legs when moving forward, displayed as kN/m. Another is the Impact Loading Rate (ILR), reported in units of body weight per second (bw/sec). This can be used to understand shock absorption by the body and potentially prevent injuries. Also included are Vertical Oscillation (VO) and Ground Contact Time (GCT), measured in cm and ms, respectively, to track your running form and efficiency. In its announcement, Suunto suggests various measures you can take to improve the results captured by the Stryd.
Stryd users with a Suunto smartwatch can view these statistics in real time rather than waiting until they have completed their workout, allowing them to further optimize their performance. Plus, a post-run analysis will provide additional insights in both the Suunto and Stryd apps. The new tool will be available for the following models: Suunto Race, Suunto Vertical, Suunto 9 Peak Pro, Suunto 9 Baro, Suunto 9, Suunto 5 Peak, Suunto 5, Suunto 3. You can install and enable Stryd via the SuuntoPlus app, with further details provided on the Suunto website.
