Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Scratch test indicates first substantial progress from Gorilla Glass Armor in years
Zack Nelson from the JerryRigEverything channel takes some time with his durability and teardown videos for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (available here on Amazon with pre-order deals), which is giving the YouTube competition more attention than usual. PBKReviews, in particular, has already made a name for itself with two videos on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, first with the exciting durability and drop test and then with probably the first teardown of the purple Samsung flagship, which we now encounter here for the third time on the tester's workbench.
After the new Gorilla Glass could not be scratched so easily with sand, a more professional scratch test now follows with a Mohs hardness kit, which is inseparably linked with the well-known resistance tests by JerryRigEverything. "Scratches start at level 6 with deeper grooves at level 7" has become Zack Nelson's most famous phrase since he started testing smartphones with modern glass compounds, and it looks like he will have to adapt it for the first time with the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
At least on PBKReviews you can't see any scratches at all at level 6, even at level 7 you have to look very closely. Deeper grooves are only recognizable with Mohs scratch levels 8 and 9, which at least strongly suggests that Corning has indeed been able to greatly improve the scratch resistance, together with better optical qualities that have also already been proven. We will soon see whether Zack's test comes to the same conclusion, as it will probably also depend on the pressure strength, which could of course be different here. The hardness kit is also tested on the frame, where you can already see the first scratches from strength level 5.
