Game Pass Core has been announced as a new way to access Microsoft's Xbox multi-player network for less than US$10 a month. The new Pass is only compatible with a limited and specific range of games, however. It will become active later in 2023, and will also supplant the Xbox Live Gold account type from day one.

Microsoft has decided to say "farewell to Games with Gold", as its former services need new ways "to include content with this subscription". They apparently include the "member deals & discounts" that will become available to those who subscribe to Xbox Live Gold's upcoming replacement.

The new way for gamers to connect online through their consoles (such as the One, Series X and Series S) is also the most affordable of the currently available options, too. Then again, the Game Pass Core will gives access to a limited selection of games "curated" by the Redmond giant, Doom Eternal, Fallout 4/76, Gears 5 and Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited included.

The list of mostly essential, yet aging, titles numbers around 25 at present, but is slated to grow over time once the new Game Pass goes live. That is scheduled to happen on September 14, 2023, at which point existing Live Gold customers will have their existing subscription converted into Core access, which will cost US$9.99 per month or US$59 per year.
