iPad Air 13 (M2) proves iFixit reparability lightweight following teardown

iFixit's latest teardown served to highlight some potentially unexpected bits of new iPad Air trivia, such as that both its 11- and 13-inch variants are now thicker and heavier than their respective Pro (M4) counterparts.

Nevertheless, the subject of this new video, the Air 13 (M2), has a battery of 36.59 watt-hours (Wh) in rated capacity compared to 38.99Wh in the top-end Pro 13 (M4). On that note, the former was shown to lack the updated 'spine-type' board layout of the latter.

However, the Air 13 (M2) might be no less amenable to a battery replacement, as what it lacks in relative portability it makes up for in pull-tabs, of which it seems to have a practically inexhaustible supply.

Then again, it also has the same new landscape-oriented selfie camera as the Pro models, as well as larger (if also replacement-resistant) integrated speakers and Pencil Pro support (with the enlarged internal magnets to go with it).

Nevertheless, the new Air 13 ultimately achieved an iFixit score of no less than 3/10, thanks to the amount of adhesive blocking the removal of its display as well as its battery; furthermore, the group now projects that the 11-inch variant would be even harder to work with due to its smaller size.

Finally, and on a slightly disappointing note, iFixit neglected to test the iPad Air (now available on Amazon) for any more bend-resistance than its Pro counterpart, not to mention the presence of any signature Apple-style software locks.
